Neither have any problem with triggering sleep mode just by folding back the cover. I didn't try their AuraHD Slimfit because by the time it was released I'd already bought one of those cheap ebay ones sold by many vendors.
Thank you for this information, I'll keep a look out for them. Although I'll probably end up with one of the cheap cases from either eBay or Amazon as they are available in so many lovely colours. Gecko usually have a pretty limited colour selection and nothing I like - hopefully it will be different this time though.

I experimented by taking a strip of tin foil and folding it 4 times and putting it behind the H2O in the cover. I was able to close the cover without putting it to sleep but it would still intermittent sleep. Maybe a copper shield would work. I'll wait to see what solution Gecko comes up with.

You might want to check into magnetic shielding foils. The one I played with a few years back was an 80% nickel material. A piece of that in the back of the Glo's sleepcover seems to have prevented sleeping when the front cover was folded over. It is fairly expensive though and finding a small piece might be iffy -- I borrowed a piece from work left over from an old project. I also tried a chunk of Mumetal but that was heavier than the cover and Glo together.

I did this with the HD all the time and never had a problem. I just got the h2o cover and it is really sweet.

If you want to divert a magnetic field (you can't block it, but you can divert it) you need to use a ferromagnetic material: ie something containing iron, nickel, or cobalt. A thin steel plate would work, but copper or aluminium ("tin") foil will not.

On the other hand, anything thick enough, even paper or styrofoam, can reduce the effect not by weakening or diverting the field, but by simply increasing the distance. As far as I know, magnetic effects are quite sensitive to distance (and anyone who plays with magnets can experience that), so a tiny increase in the distance between the cover magnet and the reader can make a difference.

The problem is that I need 3/16" distance to weaken it enough.

Try cutting out a rectangle of metal from the top of a tin can, and putting it inside the cover, behind the H2O. That should block the magnet just fine.

That seems to work. I folded the tin in aluminum foil just so it would scratch the back of the reader.

It's the fact that it's steel that actually makes it work . "Tin" cans are tin-plated steel. Pure tin wouldn't work: it's not ferromagnetic.

Delighted to hear that it works - I thought it should do, but you never know until you actually try it . I'll do the same with mine when it arrives.

I also love the way people call it "Tin Foil"; it's NOT... it's Aluminium (or for the Americans, Aluminum).

The answer to that one is very simple: when metal foil to keep food fresh first came onto the market in the late 19th century, it was made from tin. It was largely replaced with aluminium foil in the early part of the 20th century, but the old name for it "stuck", and (at least in the UK) is still in use today.

You can actually still buy "genuine" tin foil.
