There was only one TV series.

The various forms of H2G2 diverge after Magrathea for a variety of reasons. There were originally just two radio series, but the others got made after the books came out.

Perhaps his update also included text to the effect of "I am stuck on thus miserable little planet. Would someone please, please, please come by and pick me up?" It's only a plot hole if that would actually have resulted in someone picking him up! Adams' galaxy doesn't seem all that friendly and caring, after all.
