The font size problem seems to be just one book, but the missing vertical margin affects a lot of my kepubs. Attached is a screenshot of a typical one. The chapter heading is h2 {margin-bottom: 2em}, the first line of text is p {margin-top: 0}. It displayed correctly in earlier firmware, but with 3.1.0 it looks like the h2 margin has been lost. Edit: this book is http://store.kobobooks.com/en-nz/ebo...dmaid-s-tale-1 I wonder if the problem would show in a preview? Last edited by GeoffR; 12-05-2013 at 10:34 PM. |

My Kobo Aura HD updated its firmware today, and I've noticed the loss of vertical spacing between elements in the book I'm reading, too. Holy crap.

Here is a comparison of the preview of this book http://store.kobobooks.com/en-nz/ebo...e-freedom-trap on the Mini with firmware 2.6.2 and the Glo with firmware 3.1.0.
The spacing difference is obvious, but the size of the chapter heading is different too. On the Mini the chapter heading is 38% taller than the first letter of the text, but on the Glo it is only 14% taller. Edit: On second thought, the difference in font size might not be significant, the heading is probably supposed to be 125% of the text size (large vs. medium), but selecting the closest font size in pixels might just have resulted in rounding up on the Mini and down on the Glo. i just wanted to ask that should i upgrade the firmware to 3.1 from 2.8.1?i have been waiting so that all bugs are resolved but they keep on increasing or a few relevent ones still remain and new appear?
what are the features i loose and what do i gain except pocket?what are the main bugs that i might encounter in 3.1 that hamper the experience? i use my aura hd for reading pdfs and a few novels .so how big of a deal is loosing stats in experience of reading a book?will they ever come back? and also are there any margin changes as i look as much less margins as possible so more reading space for pdfs and novels?what do i loose in sideloaded kepubs? and do i loose anything on the pdf experience side as its very important to me?and overall which firmware would be a better firmware for a person using the kobo to read pdfs? one more question: now there are problems with font nickel but not that i get distracted by font problems but there's a long discussion on it so what does the problem exactly hinder in the reading?i just cant understand how can a font be distracting?i apologise if i offend somebody but pls explain pls reply thanks in advance Last edited by rkr; 12-06-2013 at 09:06 AM. |

Well, the 1% light bug seems to have been fixed. And CBR books do add to the "books read" counter if i mark them as finished, although not if i go through all pages until i'm sent back to the Home screen. So yeah, very pleased with 3.1.0 so far, i can keep Pocket integration without sacrificing anything.

As GeoffR first noted, the new Kobo 3.1.0 firmware introduces a major new bug to the ACCESS renderer used for .kepub.epub books.
To quote Geoff: "Well the kepub reader stylesheet is quite screwed up in this firmware version. There is no vertical space between objects so everything just runs together. Also everything is in the same sized font, book title, chapter headings, text, everything. What a mess." It may not be that all books are affected, but it's blatantly obvious -- the rendering under 3.1.0 looks atrocious -- with the titles I've checked from the Canadian Kobo store. Here are three that clearly demonstrate the problem; they look AWFUL under 3.1.0: http://store.kobobooks.com/en-CA/ebo...inking-clearly http://store.kobobooks.com/en-CA/ebook/social http://store.kobobooks.com/en-CA/ebook/burning-paradise GeoffR's JPGs, posted above, don't do justice to the mess; comparing the above books on a Mini (which is immune to the 3.1.0 upgrade) or another E Ink Kobo that hasn't yet been bumped to 3.1.0 and you'll see. (I bought these books, but I imagine the problem shows up in the free previews, too.) It's not just chapter heads that are affected but also subheads within a chapter, epigrams, picture captions -- anything with complex formatting. It looks TERRIBLE. ![]() Last edited by RobertJSawyer; 12-06-2013 at 11:14 AM. |

Installed today on the Kobo Aura 6". Fixed two huge problems I was having: 1) Device instantly goes to sleep instead of taking 30 seconds (after toggling the switch), and 2) Boots much faster with an SD card full of books (it used to take 5 minutes)

When you put a lot of books on the SD card it became very glitchy. The covers would not load properly, it could take up to 10-20 seconds to turn the page in your library.

After I changed the light setting on my Glo with a book open I got a popup message saying that I could adjust the light by swiping up and down with two fingers. I tried it but it doesn't work. Probably the popup was only supposed to show on the new Aura.

Paging through the library can be slow as it generates the cover images the first time they are needed. For books on the SD card, the images are not stored for later use, but are kept for a while in the memory cache. You can use calibre to send the cover images for books on the SD card and the device will use them. That should improve the speed.
