but isn't the point of this thread to discuss the rumors, no matter how unsubstantiated they are? We know it's coming out eventually, so I don't see why there's a need to make fun. Just because some of you think it's a useless topic doesn't invalidate it. No one said you have to read join in the discussion if you don't agree.

I wasn't directing that toward you. Or anyone in particular, really.

It's just that there are several threads like this, where some of us have tried engaging in a fun discussion about the kindle rumors (we know they're rumors). But there doesn't seem to be a "safe" thread to do that because those who dislike speculating feel the need to attack our comments and constantly remind us how unsubstantiated they are.

My feeling is, so what? Does that mean we're not allowed to talk about it?

It just makes sense, to me, that if someone really doesn't like speculating about Kindle rumors (or hearing others do it), then why not just ignore the thread and let the others chat about what they want?

The problem is that neither the thread title nor the initial post states that this is an unsubstantiated rumour, so anyone coming across the thread is likely to think that it has some factual basis.

Anyone coming across this thread will very soon find out that this is a thread of rumours or even unsubstantiated rumours, and then they learn that this is the case.

I agree with HarryT, anyone looking at the title of the thread, opening it up and reading the first post will think there has been a new PW confirmed. There's nothing to suggest its got anything to do with rumours, therefore the point of the thread wasn't to discuss rumours.

Sure you can read through the thread and discover there is actually no real truth to the OP...... but still!

If you want to go and start a new thread with rumours about the new PW or what improvements the new PW will have, go right ahead, we'll probably all join you posting it it.

Or, just carry on posting in this thread and expect someone to come along every now and then and point out you are talking rubbish because it's just an unsubstantiated rumour..... until such time as we do actually hear something about the PW3.

Let me put it this way, I have no doubt in my mind sometime in the future there will a third model of the paperwhite. This new model will include some advances over the second model. I will make my judgement about the value added by the second and third models of paperwhites to decide if I am going to order one. The speed increase offered by the second model was not enough to get me to go ahead and order, and the third model will need to build on the advangtages offered by the second model to make a compelling case for buying the new model. I will say that a light sensor would be an excellent addition to the paper whites, however adding the light sensor alone is not enough to get me to buy the new model. I would need atleast a 35% speed increase to make a compelling argument for me pulling loose my purse strings to buy a new model.

Good question, Harry. How about ONCE?

If you're so worried that someone might read the topic and (god forbid) think a rumor might be fact, then all you have to do is, early in the thread (so no one misses it), politely mention that it's just a rumor.

ONCE is all that's needed. It's not necessary to jump all over each comment and repeatedly remind us that it's unsubstantiated. Especially in a way that attempts to make us feel stupid.

No one minds it being mentioned. The problem is, that remark (above) doesn't sound like someone merely trying to point something out in order to help potential noobs. It sounds more like anger, and it intimates that we shouldn't even be discussing it.

Tell me. Reading the thread title and the initial post, HOW IS SOMEONE SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT THIS IS AN UNSUBSTANTIATED RUMOUR? Post titles and initial post should be an accurate reflection of the thread content. If a thread is about an unsubstantiated rumour, the title and the initial post should state that. If they do not, it is misleading to other MR members.

I'm not trying to start an argument. All I'm saying is, can't we please just chat about what we want without being made to feel stupid for it?

I really like the people in these forums. I lurked for 2 years before finally posting. And and all that time, Harry was one of my favorite posters to read. I don't want to cause bad feelings. I just don't want to be heckled for participating a topic that interests me.
