Actually, its 'iris'. The pupil is just the hole. The iris is the muscle that dilates and contracts. Like the iris of a camera.

I've heard quite a few people on this forum say that discounts often predict the announcement of a new model. There was the 1-day only sale a few weeks ago, and now I've seen a lot of links to the $20 discount + trade-in credit (Lifehacker did it today).
While I'm so tempted to take the $20 off, I'm anxious for the PW3. I've never had a current-gen model of any ereader. I bought the N1E after the Simple Touch came out. I got my Simple Touch after the STGlow came out. Now that I've decided to move on to Kindle, I am determined to have the bleeding edge model. With any luck I'll be sitting on the beach this summer with a PW3. I know it's a longshot, but I really hope these deals are a sign. |

I can totally relate to what you're saying. But did you notice SoulfulDog's post? (post #104) It shows the release dates of EVERY single e-ink kindle ever made. Apparently they have always been released in Sept or Oct. There hasn't been one exception to date.
So if you don't mind waiting another 6 or 7 months, then I'd say go ahead and wait. It might be worth it to have the cutting edge version ![]() But if you have your heart set on reading your brand new kindle on the beach this summer, then you might be better off getting a 2nd gen Paperwhite now at a bargain price. Like you, I was waiting also, but when I saw Amazon was having that one-day-only sale, I couldn't resist getting a 2nd gen Paperwhite for $20 off. Kindles do really well on the second market, so I figured if worse came to worse and the 3rd gen turns out to be a MUST have, rather than kicking myself, I can always sell my new 2nd gen Paperwhite on eBay and buy a 3rd gen. I probably won't, but at least it's an option. A six-month old, gently used 2nd gen Paperwhite will easily sell for $99 on eBay, especially if it's bundled with a cover or something. And if you get it on sale for only $99, you'd be recovering your entire cost. ![]() |

Same here! I've had mine for about 2 weeks now and I'm having a blast with it, especially now that the weather's warming up. You should go for it, U2Bono.

I completely understand that it most likely won't come out until the Fall. I'm willing to wait for that. But there's nothing wrong with hoping. Amazon will continue to release their Kindles in the Sept-Oct-Nov time frame like always...until they don't anymore.
On one hand, I have a perfectly functional Nook Simple Touch. When I compare the features of the PW2 vs. the supposed features of the PW3, the PW3 wins hands-down, so to me it's worth waiting for. I have no sense of urgency. Now, if my ST bites the dust before then, I'll get a PW2. In the meantime I will wait and hope I'm not waiting too long. |

Well as long as you have one now that you're happy with, then I'd say it's definitely worth the wait to have the one you really want. Patience is rarely followed by regret
![]() I ended up not waiting because deep down I wasn't really sure if I will like the new design, and I really love the current Paperwhite the way it is. I was kind of torn, actually. Not crazy about the lack of a bezel, but I do so love the return of page-turn buttons. Although I'm not entirely sure I will like how they're going to be implemented. (not keen on squeezing the edge of my kindle) But I guess those things remain to be seen. ![]() |

Lighter higher resolution Kindle PW3 coming in 2014 Q2
What new design are you referring to? Did they say it will be bezel-less? I seriously doubt Amazon would release a bezel-less ereader.

There is no "new design". No announcements have been made. This is all wild speculation with no basis in fact.

The Paperwhite itself started out as rumor before its release. In fact, I OWN several "rumored" devices, so it's not ridiculous to think they might come to pass. Just because Amazon hasn't announced it yet, doesn't mean it can't be true. Amazon NEVER announces their devices in advance. Nor does Apple. But does that mean the iPad Mini rumor is bogus? ----------- EDIT: Btw, that wasn't meant to come across as being argumentative. Just making the point that while it is still speculation at this point, that doesn't mean that it's too preposterous to discuss. ![]() --- Last edited by Vmurph; 03-21-2014 at 01:56 PM. |

Don't those exist already? Called Windows Tablet?
![]() That's what I'll be getting when my laptop gives out (which won't be long now). I'm all done with bulky computers. Time to minimize. The only drawback to them is puny storage space. But that can be remedied with a portable HDD. Plus, Windows Tablets have MicroSD slots, so mine will be sporting a brand new 128GB microSD card that SanDisk recently released. PS: btw, why is that your dream tablet from Amazon, if you would never buy one from them?? Wouldn't that be your dream tablet from Asus or Microsoft or something? Technically, that's a tablet. And the number of companies who have released a non-raised bezel tablet includes every company that has released a tablet in the past 5 years. To my knowledge, Kobo is the first and only company so far to have released a non-raised bezel ereader.
