Kindle all the way. It gave me back the ability to read. It is to me all about reading, not about how you are reading it. Maybe it is because I lost the ability to read, it gave me the ability to focus in on what the important thing was. Kind of like brides focusing on weddings rather than marriage.

I had a stack of paperbacks to donate and as I went to the bathroom I grabbed one to read. I sat down, opened the book, and my first thought was to enlarge the font.

I haven't bought a paper book since I got my first Kindle except for a magazine style book of road maps.

If, as with the original post, the cost was the major factor I'd be borrowing books from the library.

Two of my relatives feel the same way. Eye issue and hand issues. With an e-reader they are able to read again.

For the past three nights, I've been reading a pbook because (A) It does not exist in ebook form, and (B) The sauna probably isn't the best place to take my Reader :P.
I really get irritated with actually having to turn pages, as well as the inability to increase the font size, not to mention the weight of the book itself.
For the odd obscure or unavailable in ebook format book, I'll make do with paper, but I've sure been spoiled by eInk.

Don't the pages stick together from the steam?

Yeah, probably not the best place to take a paper book either.

Naw, the sauna is dry heat with infrared heaters in a cedar box. There's no steam.

I just prefer to read on my ereader. It's more convenient for multiple reasons (font, form factor, lighting). If the book I want isn't available at an acceptable price electronically, I'll just not read it. I have too much TBR to get through anyway.

Yeah, but I've got a towel for pre page turning drying of the hands.
I'll admit it's probably not the best idea, but sitting in a heated box with nothing to read gets awful boring awful fast!

Since I acquired my first e-reader in 2009 I've read only one fiction p-book and that was only because I couldn't locate an e-copy of the particular novel I was after last xmas. All my p-books have now either been donated to charity, gone to other folk where I work or been put in boxes to be dealt with later. I love reading on my e-readers so-much that I have actually repurchased some of the p-books I had yet to read in e-form just so that I didn't have to read on paper.

My teenage daughter, on the other hand, thinks e-reading is some sort of heresy and damns me quite regularly for sacrificing my soul to evil electronic devices. :-)

There are different ways to think about this. I tend to buy books from thrift stores and donate books to thrift stores. I suppose the ROI is 0%, but I'm typically saving about 80% to 90% on the books themselves. The donations aren't so much there to get a take deduction: it's there to ensure the system works. (It's kinda hard to have a reliable supply of books in thrift stores if noone donates.)

No pbooks for me. I went to eBooks actually before I got my Sony 505 and haven't gone back. It is cost effective for me to purchase and read eBooks and relieves me of the storage problems I would have since half of the year is spent in a Motor Home.

This is something I have to tackle, too. Most of my paper books are in English, and I live in Germany, so the easy way of donating them to family or neighbors doesn't work well. Likewise with charities, actually. Putting the boxes on the attic only delays the issue. So, I can either dump them in the trash, which I can't bring myself to, or sell them on ebay. The latter is tedious and probably not worth the trouble and expenses. Basically, all options are unappealing.

I have about 120 "Go" (the board game) paper books, which I could probably sell as a bundle -- quite a few are OOP and fairly rare --, but I'm emotionally attached to them. I guess I could keep those, especially since they are likely to retain their value (Go books are generally printed in tiny editions in the west) as collectibles. I would probably regret if I ditched them.

It's hard to break attachment.
