Thanks for that info. You did have your network wi-fi info on the Kindle Touch right? I had to return my KFHD and get a new replacement, it had my info on it, and I reset it so I guess I wasn't as worried then

I want to trade in my Samsung Galaxy Player 5 that I paid $169 for, that I don't use, I will only get $50 for it though. The Ipod Touch 4G I would get $90 and that has my wi-fi info on it. In theory reset is suppose to clear info, but I guess someone who would buy the used Ipod Touch wouldn't be a hacker, or computer wiz that could retrieve deleted info.

There is alot about computer/electronic gadgets that hackers know how they retrieve info. But they aren't going to tell us how they do it; so we don't know how to better protect ourselves.

Yes I had my WiFi info on my Kindle Touch, but feel okay about the reset wiping it. I don't know enough about Android and iOS to know whether to trust a reset with them. Probably not much other than a reset can be done on iOS, not sure about Android. With computers I've either removed the hard drives and replaced them with new ones or I've completely wiped them and reinstalled the OS.

iOS devices have a "Reset to Factory Defaults" option which does a total wipe of everything.

Thanks Harry.

Have you done reset and sold/traded in an Apple Ipod or Ipad?

I have. I'm not savvy enough with iOS to verify whether the reset does a total wipe job, but I suspect it does. Apple is good about protecting customers, as is Amazon. Android I would be leery about as I don't trust Google. Google is turning into Facebook when it comes to your personal info.

There are at least two major lawsuits against Google which justices have allowed to proceed. Google is accused of wiretapping Gmail to gather consumer info and distribute it to 3rd parties who then send related spam. Google seems as slimy as Facebook, IMO.

But the android I have is from Samsung. But this does bother me after reading about google. I am bothered by the fact that every person's private home is on the internet, both front and back. Now I have noticed more spam. What email service do you use? I came from Yahoo's email and left because of heavy spam and accounts being broke into. I am suspicious of google searching of course. But they are the most popular.

Say can you let me know when the new Apple software quirks are fixed? Other thread, I am going to get a new Mac Mini with the new software when and if it ever is released. I didn't know about the Logitech problem, and it is critical since it is my home theater and I need unified keyboards and mice.

I sold my iPad 1 as "used"on Amazon when I bought the iPad 3. The reset to factory settings must be absolutely secure, or else companies would not allow their use at work.
And since we went off-topic: May I ask which gen the iPod Nano is. Is it the previous gen (square)? If yes, what color and storage size?

The iPod Nano is 16gb 7th gen, yellow.

Since we went off-topic tell me how you sell "used" on Amazon. Is it a big pain? Thanks for the info on reset. Which Ipad do you have? I am looking at those too

When you do a search for the device you have, you will notice a box on the right hand side saying "Have one to sell?" If you click on it, it prepopulates a lot of the fields, will show you the cheapest price it is ofered at on amazon and within minutes you can list your own. I had never done this before but lost a lot of money through fees last time I sold an old gadget through Ebay, so figured I'd try my luck with amazon. It sets up a vendor account for you, and it may take a month to receive your moeny, if memory serves me well, but it was all very painless. I now have an 64 GB iPad 4 LTE, and will maybe sell it through Amazon when I upgrade to an iPad Air.

Too bad your Nano is a 7th gen. I am thinking about buying another 6th gen before they become even rarer. They are selling at apremium price on Ebay already, considering their age!

I was checking out selling at Amazon while I awaited your reply, and almost went through with it until I thought I read on Amazon that you have to list your checking account. I would never list my checking account, but I would my credit credit. Less liability if info stolen. Did you have to list your checking account? I thought maybe it was for people out of US, but I found it really confusing.

When selling here do you collect amount first, then mail? Or how do they do it? Sorry getting off the trade-in subject.

I am using Amazon Trade-in for my Ipod Touch 8gb, and my SGP5. Funny they are giving $90 for the Touch, and $57 for the SGP5. I listed one as "don't return", and the other "return if not bought". Now I am wondering will they not buy for full price because I said don't return? This is all greek to me.

@new: I don't remember what account number I gave them, and the payment came from Amazon, not the customer, about a month after I sold it. However, the sale took only a few minutes!
