Since I don't have a political voice in South Carolina (I'm from Washington), then I take it that the good senator would support me visiting his home state and making tax free purchases?

If I buy something in a store, it's obvious where the transaction took place. Online, it's not at all obvious. Some like DeMint, think the transaction took place at the seller's server. Others think the transaction took place right in your living room. But this isn't taxation without representation. I'm being charged a sales tax by my state, were I am represented. But if I cross the border to shop in person, that could be seen as taxation without representation, as I am paying state sales tax in a state where I am not represented. If I pay sales taxes to my state for for purchases over the internet, that is taxation with representation.

Careful, though. A national sales tax might be the solution to the conundrum.

You could have a national sales tax, but I don't think it would resolve the issue, but rather add another issue. States would still be collecting sales tax, a national sales tax on online shopping would simply divert tax revenues from the states to the federal government. I would think those who want the federal government to do less and have power moved down to the state level should be eager to see sales tax collected by the states.
