I have several Apple products. I bought them because at the time they were the best product out there.
I don't like Apple. I don't like a fair number of their business practices. I really don't like the cult of Apple and all the folks that are so enamored with Apple that the second something new is released they absolutely have to have it this very second even though it is barely different then the product they already have. More accuretly, I don't appreciate the sense of materialism that is attached to Apple and what it says about us as a society. If I were to buy a MP3 player today, I would probably look for something other then an IPod, depending on how easy it is to take the GBs of music I have in ITunes and move it to a new device. I took a serious look at the Samsung Galaxy and came close to buying it. I bought the IPad because it is easier for me to play my silly games with others who have an IPad, ie everyone I know. I did rule out the less expensive tablets because of the mixed reviews. I am lucky, I can afford to buy the more expensive version that tends to work really, really well. Not everyone is in that same situation. There are some really good products in the $250 - $400 price range that work well for folks. |

What kills me is this:
I am an intelligent person. I make purchases for electronics based on my personal needs. I research all my available options and then get what works for ME. But I feel attacked every single time Apple is brought up. Because I am an Apple customer. Every single time Apple is brought up...name calling, insults and school-yard meanness erupts. A lot of you guys...I like for the most part. But often I want to block your comments because of the unnecessary vitriol slung my way because I dared to buy a product that I like. And I've heard the piss-poor excuses of "well we're not talking about "you" we're talking about "other apple customers." But that's crap. Cause 99% of those "other apple customers" don't hang out here. Those "other apple customers" that you guys profess to hate so strongly are not hanging at a site dedicated to all forms of mobile reading tech. Is it really necessary to be so freaking nasty for no reason?? Hate the company all you want...but keep others who are no apple employees out of it. |

But the bottom line is that I absolutely HATE iTunes. It is the most obtuse, cumbersome piece of software I've ever used. Is there a reason I can't just drag and drop? I don't buy any content from Apple, and try to reduce my reliance on iTunes as much as I can. |

Actually, I'm quite happy with the shitty knock offs & inferior products products I have bought including the Kindle Fire, Viewsonic gTab, Entourage eDGe, iPod, and Okama Gamesphere. The problem I have with Apple is exactly the same problem I have with Samsung. They are both sue happy. I happen to like the look of the iPad and the Galaxy Tab. Both great looking products. However, I won't buy either because of their business practices. I know that companies sue all the time but these two have taken it to the extreme and it really is a turn off for informed consumers. Google Apple sues or Samsung sues and prepare to wade through pages of stories. You defend the products but you don't or can't defend the business practices referred to in the title of this thread. Anyway, Tim cook is a very different business man than Steve jobs was. He's trying a new tactic & we'll see how it works. I applaud him. |

Clearly you have not read some of the Amazon Kindle topics otherwise you would realize that there are plenty of folks at this site who are pretty strongly opposed to Amazon. There is no moderation bias, that I can see. People happen to have strong feelings regarding Apple and Amazon.
I have been known to go a little over board defending Amazon and have had a Mod or two talk to me. I happen to know that there are plenty of folks on the board who have been suspended or banned for their personal attacks on folks that came in topics that were anti-Apple, anti-Amazon, and a few others. It is legitimate for people to love Apple and their products and it is legitimate for people to dislike Apple and their products. They tend to provoke strong emotions. Generally speaking, yelling at folks does little to change their opinion. |

Dot.com bubbles and other bubbles have happened many times. I remember Cisco very well. It too was a "special company." And then there was the housing market which didn't have the heights of the dot.com market, but was vastly larger and more devastating. |
