OT: Oh, These weren't hard drives that DIED on me. Most were good. I just have put EXTRA drives in my computer. The Personal Media drives just pull out of the front of the computer. So I put pictures and documents on one; movies on another and I keep buying larger drives and put the smaller ones in our spare computer. I also have a virtual copy of my old Vista installation running as a drive. Fun, fun, fun.
I have had a very few die on me...usually under warranty and so I get a free replacement.
I'm 70 years old and retired so I have time to fool with this stuff.

Lucky! I must ask what brand you use that is possibly why I have so much trouble. I buy Western Digital my last WD drive started failing in 8 months. *sigh* I bought a smaller drive this time with newer plate technology. I am hoping this fixes the problem. No more Sims either all my other drives had been tainted with the game but this one hasn't.

It has one of those personal media drive slots so I have about three of those.
I plan to keep it until the motherboard goes on it. It has a great fast CPU - 7.1 Experience Index. The computer as a whole is 6.9 Experience Index so it's pretty fast.
My goodness, u luv to tinker.

I have a WD as an external. They must make drives that work better when they aren't used much I guess. I bought it in like, 2008... Still working very well for me, and I usually have it sitting in my purse. I think our machines primarily have Hitachi/Samsung brand ones. I'd have to check. I have some that originally came with Windows 98 and are running XP. . Lots of old Macs that have old drives preinstalled with System 8 too.

3D games run hard drives really hard I do believe. I hear about people's graphics cards and hard drives busting because of WOW and other games. All I know is that my computers have always gone crazy when running them, almost to the point of being unbearable. SSD drives are apparently a step forward in that, but are too expensive at this point.

I like to tinker too, just mostly the stuff inside the machine since I'm horrible taking things apart. I still need to fix my 2006 MacBook Pro as it's sitting there clinging for its life.

Add me to the list as well. I build my own PCs or use to before this one. The one I have now is a Gateway which I call Lemon. My last PC I built still runs fine but it's slow single core 2.6ghz compare to my quad core 2.4ghz Funny that Quad core is consider old now. The only thing original in Lemon now is the motherboard and cpu. I should of went with the Acer my hubby's is old and runs fine.

I own a WD passport I love mine. So portable. I also have a WD Black 1TB I bought for the PC but it's too powerful for my motherboard so I bought this really ugly external case with built in fan and it keeps the thing cool enough for backing up. I have gone through two WD Blue 640MB SATA drives since I got this PC. I have a WD Blue 320GB SATA II in there now and I miss the space!

Sims is really hard on drives due to custom content. The drive has to access 10,000+ files each time the game is loaded. I could never play vanilla.

I gather by your posts, that you appear to be a VERY wasteful consumer. And either very wealthy or heavily in debt.

You seem to buy things as soon as they come out, and throw them in the "GARBAGE" when you tire of them. I haven't seen you once say you gave them to someone or donated to a school or church, for someone who might not be able to afford them...

???

Hoarders or Disposers

Some folks are Hoarders and have attics and basements full of old "stuff." Some folks are Disposers and have empty attics and basements. I am the latter.

Yes, I always buy the latest and the greatest. I buy Dell PC's with the 4 year extended warranty and dump them at the end of the 4 years for the newest model. If anything breaks during the 4 years, Dell handles the problem. Dell used to have a program for receiving back old PC's and refurbishing them for resale to poorer folks, schools or libraries. I believe that program was discontinued a few years ago when I purchased my last PC in 2010.

I do sometimes give away old eReaders and / or PC's if I can find a willing recipient - usually among my great grandkids or other relatives. They end up loaded with my old "junk."

Prior to 1955 I read thousands of print books all of which did end up in the garbage. The only old print books I've saved are all the old Bibles. I do have hundreds of those including a run off of an old Gutenberg Bible. Some of those very old Bibles could be worth big bucks today.

Many years ago Book of the Month Club was the place to get books at a good discount. Today I only buy my eBooks from Amazon. Once read, I delete the old eBooks from my eReaders and only keep the latest half dozen on the device. I read two 800 to 1,000 page eBooks at one time all carefully researched historical eBooks covering biographies and wars with ample footnotes in an appendix to prove the authenticity of the author's writings.

For me there is no question that I will pre-order the next generation of Amazon eReader when it is introduced. I get as much fun playing with new gadgets as I do reading new ebooks.

Question Is this a 6.3 bug?

I just noticed that I can no longer save email attachments that I have sent to myself (not the Kindle email address but my regular email address). I get an error message that the attachment cannot be saved to the sdcard. This is in K9 and Enhanced Email and these are tiny notepad txt files.

Since I am rooted and use Go Launcher EX, this may just be a permissions problem??

No it's a bug. Others at Amazon Kindle forum are having the same issues. I just use gmail through the browser it still works.

While all these annoying bugs still await fixes, I am less than enthusiastic about the prospects of a Fire 2.

Of course. And I do not mind one bit. But... how Amazon addresses/solves the more annoying bugs now will influence my decision in regard to purchasing a future Fire.

There will always be bugs on new devices, particularly for first adopters. More important is how quickly such bugs are resolved. Amazon has a pretty good track record, IMO, for addressing customers' concerns. Certainly better than most. That said, if we are still whining about the same bugs months from now my opinion may change.
