Is Apple betting the farm on the new iPad (iPad3 or iPadHD or ?)?

People with iPad love them. People without cant understand why anyone would even buy one.

$399 ipad 2 and retina displays for $499 mean that apple is now competing on specs and on price. How will windows 8 tablets be priced? Will oither vendors offer this retina display too?

There's not much difference in resolution from 5MP to 8MP. And in the case of small sensors increasing the resolution can be a detriment to picture quality when it comes to noise.

I fail to see a purpose for a rear cam on a tablet. Front cam for video chats, yes; but rear cam???

True when comparing the increase in megapixels 60% isn't small. But the resulting increase in resolution is small when you consider that to double the resolution you have to quadruple the pixel count.

I've seen people taking photos with an iPad, but I would think that having to hold it steady for a video might be tiring.

Apparently the iPad 3 has image stabilization built in. I always think that people taking photos with an iPad look very silly .

If they are not sold out within the first week, then the new management will be blamed. If they will not try to manufacture as many as possible it can be interpreted as no confidence. The first batch from the UK Apple store has already sold out, and you now can't order for a March 16th delivery.
Of course we don't know if that is because demand is very high, or supply was low.
The US store still has all models stocked for a March 16th delivery. The French and German stores are saying 19th March.

It's been said before, but bears repeating - there are lots of occupations where the ability to shoot pictures or video directly into a notes app would be a bonus as it saves having to collate them later, and removes the attendant problems that mismatched notes & pictures could cause.

I have a friend who attended their kids school musical but forgot her camera, so recorded the whole show on an iPad; it worked just fine. Are regular folks likely to be doing this if they have a camera or phone handy? Probably not. But if you cast your mind back a couple of years, Apple were being roundly criticised by all and sundry for leaving cameras off the original iPad; then when the iPad 2 had cameras, they were roundly criticised for them not being good enough.

Now the cameras are decent, they're being criticised for having cameras at all! No pleasing some people, lol!
