Thanks, Keith. I've been doing almost all of my reading as ebooks for over ten years now. For many years, I had a link to Fictionwise -- before the Kindle, the biggest ebook store -- but they're moribund; I agree I've got to get around to adding ebook-purchase links.

I am going nuts...I have tried the instructions to (re) root the vox that were posted here on three separate computers (running XP, Vista and Windows 7, and have no luck with any of them detecting the Vox..and every time I start up the Vox the startup sound taunts me and my failure: Keith the other

Where do you reside Odieman? Maybe someone close could help.

I updated last night (in the UK) and am not finding it that bad

The recommendations on home page is the worst, would be ok if the system worked and showed books I am interested in, just seems a random collection, and the 'Just for You' in the library is easily avoided

facebook doesnt seem as intrusive as it is in iOS, that posts every time you open a book saying you are reading it, Vox hasn't done this, unless my FB integration is broke

not noticed any other differences so far

So I finally I have been able to update. I do use Facebook so have no problem with the Timeline feature. And the introduction of this means, at least at first glance, that the only significant Kobo for iOS feature not yet on the Vox is support for Places and Faces, but given that this is supported so badly by Kobo and/ or publishers (the list of books with Faces and Places data is tiny and apparently completely random) I guess it hardly matters. But still, I think it's a a shame this pleasingly meta feature is being so neglected.
I am not madly keen on the 'recommended for you' widget but will leave it situ for now.
One rather irritating little glitch: I had three books by Bernard Cornwall in my library. When the update finished, the selection of recommendations generated when I launched the library app included two books by him. The system saw this as me now having five books by Bernard C in my library, so I was immediately given the Fanatic award. I guess recommendations are seen as the equivalent of previews, but still, I would have preferred to have earned properly the Fanatic award by actually adding five (whole) books by the same author to my library.
Which leads me on to my next comment: come on, Kobo, we want some new awards! There are so many possibilities for these and you should adding new ones all the time. I must try and join the beta testing group to push for this.

think I might have just experienced the wake from sleep issue (never had this before with previous software)

went to bring it out of standby and the screen was unresponsive, had to hold the power button down until it powered off and then turn on again

That's sleep of death, not wake from sleep.

and the more I look at this update the more disappointed I am

Facebook timeline only works with books from the kobo store, so might as well disable this option as most of my books are not from kobo

Surely that was predictable though Paul? Kobo don't really have an incentive to advertise books not bought from them

True, but I was assuming (as well as promoting the books) that it would keep info on Facebook, number of books read, top author etc

If all it does it add books bought from kobo to the facebook time line, its a bit pointless (for me anyway)

just seems that this update is for kobo's benefit, nothing added to benefit the reader

If you are interested in the type of things I thought, have a look at the goodreads.com site and how they implemented time line, this is what I hoped kobo where doing

Interesting. I haven't really explored Goodreads. Will take a look
