I agree, a compiled version would be great for us who don't have the time to set up a compilation environment.

@varnie, bhaak
as reported by amalewolf, Chinese characters are not shown in epub books, but txt files are ok. as for mobi books, it seems that books with Chinese titles will crash the reader, whereas those with English titles are ok. hope you can solve the problems. many thanks. |

Both with the standard and our own freetype library. test.epub showed only '?' but that was to be expected as I don't have a font on my Kindle Touch that supports chinese characters. test_embedded_font.epub worked perfect because it had an embedded font. For testing it would be best if somebody could provide us files that make the program crash (preferably some free samples). |

Ok, I added HackedUpReader from Varnie. Have to say it's a little different figuring things out. Would be great to sort by Series, and I really don't need to see file extensions, just Titles.
Also I noticed the default ebook viewer has a process called cvm that can use up to 50% cpu usage while cr3 uses a max of about 22%. Yeah.... Longer battery life. |

In fact, both readers should need 0% CPU when idle and aquire up to 100% when calculating. The 22%/50% values are no valid measures - at least if you were just sitting and watching the output of "top". If you're interested in getting reliable measurements, I suggest to measure CPU time consumed. Have a look at /proc/<PID>/sched, if you want "hard numbers" :-)
(The CVM will probably have a big startup overhead, which should probably be taken into account.) |

hi,yiming
![]() with my poor english ,i guess your meaning is: in a whole English book,a few chinese words can be correctly show,but in my test: the Chinese Edition《Steve Jobs:A Biography》 ,when its title is Chinese, the format in txt/epub,the book is "???" ;when its title is English ,the txt/epub also "???". and for the mobi,if i change a chinese book'titel into English ,it's also only "???". i don't konw why~~ Last edited by amalewolf; 04-07-2012 at 07:36 AM. |

1. The titles of the books are somehow invalid. They are not valid UTF-8 and that's they can't be shown correctly. There's nothing the program can do about that. 2. The fonts in the books aren't showing up. For the epub there's a work-around: Open the "Main Menu" -> "Settings menu" -> "Document embedded styles" -> Off With "Default font face" being Code2000, the epub works for me. The txt doesn't but I don't know why. The problem with the epub is that the CSS in that epub wants to use a font this way: Code:
@font-face { font-family:"cnepub"; src:url(res:///opt/sony/ebook/FONT/tt0011m_.ttf), url(res:///tt0011m_.ttf); } |

I added an optional page refresh to the reader. It can be set in the Settings dialogue.
The one small inconvenience is that the battery status icon underwent a few changes, and now appears a little differently than it did before. This issue is detailed here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...3&postcount=27 (if you cares). This feature is highly experimental, so do not expect too much from it ![]() here is the fresh build: https://github.com/downloads/varnie/...-varnie.tar.gz |

cvm does have a large overhead and loaded automatically at startup. |

hi,bhaak,thanks a lot!
i change the setting as you said.And not only the epub ,but also the txt are all shown correctly.I also don't know why ~ I am a literature student,I don't understand the code you'v written there,sorry~~.But I have an idea about the titles of the books only shown as"????": I find that-- in the menu, the "Default font face" only changes the content of the book.The font of the program can't be changed.So,if we change the default font of the program into Code2000,the titles can be shown correctly,I think. |
