The Kindle has been my internet access away from home--slow and clunky, but handy in an emergency.

Me neither. I'm paying about a third of that.

That sounds much more doable. Perhaps I should look into it again if things have gotten that much cheaper.

I'm only paying an additional $10 for unlimited data with Sprint. What carriers charge $70?? Wowza.

you should. I used to pay about $90 a month for my voice & data plan on AT&T because the iPhone was just so much better than every other smart phones out there when it just came out. Now that android has caught up (and arguably better in many ways), I switched to Virgin Mobile and use their $25 300min plan including unlimited text & data on my motorola Triumph. Pretty satisfied so far and it has saved me close to a thousand bucks already...

Whenever I need my Touch or iPad to connect to the internet without wifi, I just use wifi/bluetooth tether with my phone.

I get the same issues at times, but it is me mainly being an idiot. I drop the darn thing on my self and touch screens can't distinguish between finger and tummy heat. I still love my KT and it is also the only reason I got an e-reader. I was looking at sony's until I heard Amazon was coming out with the touch and waited an extra 3 months. Best purchase ever. Smart move though, if you prefer the non-touch, stock up on the older ones before they are obsolete. But like mentioned here, why not the 4? I still found the keyboard too big and the 4 is tiny, even to the touch.

The K4 has half the battery life and a third the storage of the KT - that's quite a big sacrifice for only $20 less. Of course, those factors may be irrelevant to many, but it's still a point to bear in mind.

I tried it out. My objections pretty much what I thought they would be. I just don't much like reading with touch screen devices. I accidentally turn pages. I accidentally skip to the next chapter. I want a page turn button to rest my finger on. I try to adjust the font and I end up highlighting words and looking them up in the dictionary instead. Mostly, I'm hopeless.

It just hit me today that I should just get another of the keyboard device that I loved, while I can still buy one, rather than continue to make myself like this one. Because I'm pretty sure that in the next couple of years, touchscreens will probably be all that is available. Plus, I already own a Kindle Keyboard lighted cover that is just sitting here empty and unloved. New Kindle Keyboard will be here tomorrow.

And I'll be able to put the pictures of my kids back on with the screensaver hacks and I'll be able to use the Calibre Collection Plug-in again.
The touch screen is a little to sensitive. I ordered Newsweek for hubby on it and he really doesn't like using it. I get used to things very quickly, he takes a little time.
