But since these tablet readers are aimed at average non-techies, the ecosystem will be the deciding factor and not the hardware. Amazon or B&N? As it stands, I'm still very happy with my rooted NC1. Upgrading to NC2 will depend on features and price. Last edited by tubemonkey; 11-03-2011 at 05:11 AM. Reason: typo |

You know, the tablet market is taking the wrong approach in my opinion. They're treating these devices like smartphones, instead of laptop replacements. As a result, these tablets become overpriced niche products. Laptops don't have that problem. Just look at the large variety within a given product line. Why isn't an HP producing a half dozen or more tablets ranging in price from $199 to $599 and higher? Put stock Android on these devices and let Google handle the OS. That has tremendous value to customers and would save these companies a lot of time and money in developing and maintaining their own OS/UI. HP is very successful with laptops. They could have that same success with tablets if they took the same approach. |

The ultrabooks are going to fill this niche and be fully MS compatible with corporate networks and existing applications. |

They're working on full OS's for tablets and soon enough, the hardware and software will mesh. Keep in mind that most people don't need full office suites. Most people can get by quite happily on low end laptops. I once had a low end Compaq laptop and replaced it with a netbook. Just recently, I replaced my netbook with a TouchPad. HP is out of the game for now, because they put all their eggs in the wrong basket. Their blunder is my fortune. ![]() |

![]() BTW the Transformer just won: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-15559778 But the issue is still hauling all that around and software compatibility if you expect to use it as a true laptop. It's more this (the software compatibility) that sets the dividing line, just like with content availability/ecosystem between phones, tablets, ultrabooks, laptops, desktops, servers... |

Some users certainly do not use the functionality of a laptop and can move to a tablet immediately, many (if you are actually using it as a computer) cannot the software and infrastructure are just not there. |

Oh hairy, banana eating creature, I beg to differ with you.
![]() I agree, it would have been nice to have a SD slot, but I'm happy with the dual-core. I have no patience and would HATE waiting for pages to load while surfing. Carol |

The specs look good. I like the internal memory, RAM, and the processor.
