Library offerings = major Kindle turning point, imo - Page 8

Overdrive could easily fix their website so it works with Kindle's browser (to open the amazon.com page in the current 'window' rather than trying to open a new window). Hope they'll do that.

Yes, that is the way that it works. The library buys the right to lend a certain number of copies of a book simultaneously. Those books can then be borrowed in any available format. The library doesn't have to buy ePub, PDF, and Kindle books separately.

Does anyone know of libraries that accept payment from non-US citizens who want to be library members? I'm from Singapore and would like to explore library books...

I think the non-touch won't be very well liked. It needs the touch. The Touch version will be so much better.

Can you share your personal experiences of using the Kindle non-Touch with us please, Jon? I'm sure that many people would be interested in knowing what it is that's led you to find that it's so bad.

Whats bad about it ? most people use their readers like so..

1: Open Book
2: Turn Pages
3: Close Book

Most readers of popular fiction are not highlighting, searching, taking notes etc...

The $79 dollar kindle is just fine for people who simply want to READ. I like having more options on my reader so I have the Nook Simple Touch, my mother on the other hand.. the kindle non-touch more than meets her needs in a reader..

Dang, they've got the book I want to check out available, but I don't/can't have an account.

My local libraries don't have it.

It's the keyboard. it doesn't work well. You can to scroll over to each key you want then press enter then scroll again, press enter, scroll, etc. Not good at all. Also, the page turn button is not in a very nice place.

You wouldn't want to use it if you take extensive notes, I agree. That's why I'm sticking to my K3 with its physical keyboard. But it should be fine for doing things like searches. The Pocketbook 360 has a similar system, and it's entirely acceptable for that kind of thing.

As I said in response to an earlier post of yours, Jon, I don't like the fact that the Touch doesn't have physical page turn buttons. I'm going to stick with my K3.

That's why I like my nook Touch better touch screen, physical buttons and Android

To each his own. I ordered the kindle touch I'm use to touch screens, though this is not technically touch as it uses IR sensors. But I have an iPad & iPhone so it's good with me. I say let's just keep supporting amazon in their world domination. Maybe we can get prices lowered on ebooks eventually. Lol.
