I've been going to town checking out books with my kindle. For some reason, it is easier to manage than checking out books with my sony or phone. Not sure why really. I got my sony for library check out, but never used it much after the first month. I think I can now safely find it a new home. I don't mind buying the books I want, but sometimes, the price is just a little more than I want to pay, so now I have another option. What is nice about the kindle library option is that it is archived with Amazon and there is an option to buy it from Amazon. If I really like a book I checked out, I can buy it without doing a major search for it. I'm not sure I'll actually use this option, but who knows.

I might be using it. I'm reading some books that I wasn't sure (based on the free sample) that I'd care to buy, but if I find myself marking them up and underlining a fair bit, then it's nice to retain those reading notes when I buy a copy.

It doesn't on every library. Well, let be rephrase.

When I put ebooks on the Wish List, one of my library's lists them as eBooks. You're given a choice of available links when you can download the books.

Another one does, though. And despite the fact that "Adobe" comes alphabetically before "Kindle", they've put all the Kindle links on top...I keep clicking Kindle links because the first link USED to be Adobe ePub.

So I'm happy the library #1 doublechecks I got the format I wanted, even though library #2 doesn't.

Just an observation here, don't take it as a criticism, please.

One of the main problems I see, as a computer geek often asked to "fix" computer problems, is that we (myself included) become so comfortable and familiar with our devices, apps and OSs that we fail to watch the screen in our hurry to accomplish the task at hand. I learned long, long ago never to ask my wife (for example) "What did you do?" when she's trekked off into some virtual black hole instead of obtaining the result she desired. Her complaint is often "Why doesn't it do what I wanted it to do?" My real answer is "Because it's doing what you told it to do." but I can't say that anymore, of course.

The modern equivalent of "keyboarding" is similar to typing except you must keep track of what your cursor is doing or you end up in a detour to the next universe (Kindle rather than ePub on the drop-down menu). So when things don't work, it's usually a PICNIC (Problem In Chair, Not In Computer). Of course, we can always blame the programmer.

Firefox changed the order of "open link in new window" and "open link in new tab". I know that it makes more sense this way, but I still need to get used to it.

It's funny how each library customizes OverDrive differently. I generally stick with one library; but when switching to a different one, I have to be careful where I click. Otherwise, I get a surprise.

So I got an email from amazon saying my check out that I let expire naturally just happened and it says on the Xoom Kindle App book listing:

Quote:
[Loan Ended] Outliers:The Story of success
Amazon
and on my Manage your Kindle page at Amazon it gives me the choice to Delete or Purchase the book

I did not actually download to my Kindle 2 but should have, to test that.
