Actually, yeah, I was thinking more of someone like Red Hat or Ubuntu featuring a Kindle app, at least to start. I can see where it could get ugly

What proportion of Linux users would have WINE installed and be able to run the PC Kindle app on that?

No idea. I like the idea of WINE, but I like the idea of companies recognizing Linux as a viable desktop OS on it's own as well-the more the merrier, I say

Actually that may be more accurate than not, they certainly don't want to release the source code.

Nvidia has not released the source code for their proprietary driver, which happens to be a kernel module, neither has ATI for theirs. VmWare products for Linux? Nero? There are quite a few companies that have solved that problem, proving that it is perfectly possible to target (x86) Linux workstations.

Any discussion about technical difficulties on Linux is but an excuse. The fact remains that:
- the market is small (we few), and, even worse
- most of us are crafty enough to run WINE or virtualization software.

+1.

And there would be a voiceover saying something like "Only Android offers true Amazon integration. Only Android allows you to read, purchase, and download a book...without leaving the app. Amazon integration. Only on Android."

There could also be a similar ad for B&N and Sony.

I don't really "get" the commercials, especially not the one where the blonde is rattling off her reasons for liking DTBs (the smell! the feel!). The point of the commercial seems to be that only an idiot would prefer those things to a Kindle/eReader. It seems like a commercial that only a Kindle/eReader-owner would agree with -- perhaps NOT the best way to win over new business.

Andrew, +1 on your voice-over.
