Did Powells ever sell Mobi books? Was at their site and no sign of the mobi format.

The thing is that you'll not know if they took them down or never had them until after MobiPocket's DRM server is back up.

I never saw mobi books at Powells. I purchased eReader and Adobe books years ago and I recently purchased some MS Reader Books and the only formats available were eReader, Adobe, and Microsoft.

Thats amazing that an organisation of that size can have their web site down for so long. I am beginning to wonder if they are in financial difficulties.

Actually, the screen is fantastic for reading, quite a bit larger than my original Rocket eBook.Check out a demo flash here:

Doubtful: Mobipocket is part of Amazon.com.

I'd guess they aren't part of Amazon's IT infrastructure, had their own server, and suffered a massive failure on it. Depending upon what they ran, it could take a bit to get replacement hardware (or perhaps a complete new server), and restore from the most recent backup.

I suspect executives at the parent company are asking the Mobi folks some tough questions...

I have the Q1B. I love it for reading!. My only regret is that I didn't get one that has a media slot.

That would be 5:30pm Eastern and as of right this minute, MobiPocket is still down and Fictionwise has changed their info to say the 23rd or 24th.

Mobipocket - Some DRM books available

At this hour, Mobipocket is still showing the same page everyone knows by now. BooksOnBoard just turned up with some Mobipocket titles that can be downloaded right now. They're labeled Mobipocket OD. OD must be for Overdrive. You have to search for them. (Their advanced search is the most effective way on that site.) I saw Neil Gaiman's Stardust and some romance titles.

Mobipocket has just been bought by Amazon. They are still located in France and their staff is small. I would not expect money to be the problem.
