Our problem is that we seem to bread for stupidity.
Every time I see another kid practicing day after day on a skateboard I want to puke. A few days ago I met a homeless kid (20-23) asking for a pair of pliers to get the wheel of his bicycle off. It had a flat. I loosened the nuts on his wheel, thinking that he was going to take the tire somewhere for repair. When I came out of the store a half hour later he was just replacing THE RIM on the bike. He had removed the tire! As I was waiting to back up and leave, he started to peddle away on the rim. The flat tire and inner tube was laying on the ground where he had worked on the bike. You may not deserve what will happen in the future. I may not deserve what will happen in the future. But the world as a whole, does. We have neglected our responsibilities to our children. And THEY are our future. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by SameOldStory; 04-10-2011 at 01:48 PM. |

![]() Why on earth are we so hell-bent on financially crippling our farmers by 'fracking'', and polluting Mother Earth? We then import food which is either GM'd, or grown in unsanitary conditions, eg. fish etc. Merely thoughts. Cheers. |

Pollution brings up one of my favorite points about how little we think things through.
Sea salt. All mined salt was once sea salt. About Salt "Over all of geologic history, on average, the sea sits as much as 200 meters higher than today. And in the shallow, flat-bottomed seas that normally cover much of the continents, subtle vertical crustal motions can isolate large areas of water that dry up and precipitate their salt. Once formed, these salt beds can be easily covered by limestone or shale and preserved. In a few million years, maybe less, this natural salt harvest might start happening again." This is what people think of when think of "sea salt"; ![]() Millions of years ago there was a little less man-made pollution. Today we talk of how our pollution is killing off the sea. Question: Mined sea salt or freshly harvested sea salt gathered by a person who is too poor to not harvest what he may, or may not, know is tainted sea water? |

If our species is straining under the current population, it is because we are not utilizing our intelligence the way we should. There is no sound reason for people to die of thirst on a planet with such an absurd amount of water. There is no reason people should starve when food can be genetically modified to grow in whatever condition. There is no reason for a species to clamor for space when if the human population was in an area as dense as New York City, they wouldn't even occupy a space the size of California. There is no reason to drill for oil when we can abstract energy from the sun, ocean, wind, and the very earth underneath us. If we all die, it will be a fate well deserved because we didn't try to the best of our capabilities.

There is one reason for all that you decry. Human stupidity, from the lowest in society to our so-called leaders.
One study I read a long time ago that examined how rats behaved when forced to live in very high concentrations. Even with plenty of food, the results were grim. We aren't as well behaved as rats. |
