their wallet already took the hit, so it's kinda moot.

go to amazon and leave a 1-star review. that may get their attention.

also, if it makes you guys feel better, the new 3.1 does nothing to improve pdf.

I gave my "old" Sony PRS 900 (13 months old) to my wife.
I wouldn't give away my DXG. I would give out my Kindle 3 Wifi but fortunately I don't have to decide. DXG for bigger serious documents and the K3 for waiting for the bus, train and reading special formatted books and newspapers.

I still don't get the fuzz. The features from the 3.1 fw are nice to have but not a deal breaker. I suggest to have more patience about an upcoming firmware update.

we're arguing that Amazon made no promises to do so, and that they have not "ripped off" anyone.
Hence Amazon apologist..I never mentioned being "ripped off".Neither haveI mentioned any broken promises? I am an extremely disappointed customer and thus my rant..How else do I express my displeasure? Why is it your personal obligation to respond to defend Amazon?

For myself, I have mostly focused on the original issue of this thread which was about involving a consumer watchdog programme in the issue.
Did you bother to address any of that?
like u did in the last 2 posts? I thought u made a post insulting me..How did it contribute to the topic?

that was my point exactly.

The fact that you throw the term at me is another clear indicator that you couldn't be bothered to read through the thread before lobbing your little tantrum at it.

Ah well - I held out a faint hope you might address the actual content of previous posts in this thread, but I guess I should have known better.

Welcome to my ignore list - you can go ahead and troll to your heart's content - I won't be responding any further. I'd rather not waste any more of my time.

Amazon and many other companies traditionally provide upgrades though the life of a product, introducing new features missing from the initial release and fixing bugs.

It is not at all unreasonable to expect that the Amazon's flagship reader will receive the same treatment, when their mass-market device is getting such updates.

Moreover, currently there are no alternatives if one wants a large-screen device, so not buying the DXG is akin to cutting off your nose to spite your face.

It just leaves a bitter taste in those who spent $400+ on their KDX, and I am sure many will remember it if alternatives emerge.

I know it's tough to figure out, but maybe because Amazon still sells the KDX, and because it's their flagship device....

A serious question here. I'm not trying to be a pain, but I truly just don't understand:

Are you under the impression that the largest, highest priced product equals "flagship device?" Because when I browse Amazon's site and look at their devices, I don't see the words "premier" or "flagship" on anything. I see a bigger device that costs more. Surely that's not the only criteria you're using to classify the DXG as Amazon's "flagship" device. It's quite obvious that Amazon doesn't consider it their flagship. So why do you (other than the fact that you own one)?

Seriously, what's the deal with everyone making up product descriptions that don't exist?

Pocketbook now has a 9.7 inch e-ink device; two, actually. The PB 902 and the 903, the 903 has a touchscreen, the 902 doesn't. They don't have the new Pearl screens, however, and are fairly new products. Despite the Kindle DX's shortcomings in handling PDFs, I'm still leaning towards purchasing one, as there really isn't very much competition, and as you so elegantly put it, not buying it is like cutting off my nose to spite my face.

I do regret that the DX does not have at least the same PDF functions as the K3, especially because I imagine many people (if not most) buy the DX specifically because they want an e-book reader that renders PDFs well.

Merriam-Webster defines flagship as :

1. the ship that carries the commander of a fleet or subdivision of a fleet and flies the commander's flag

2. the finest, largest, or most important one of a series

So, under 2, the DXG could be considered the 'flagship' Kindle.

Why did Amazon build in obsolescence into the DXG from the start? It was obsolete the day it was released.

it seems like they did it as a way of promotion...
they simply took a regular DX and slapped a pearl screen on it with a graphite shell. it enabled them to create a lot of buzz and anticipation for the K3, all for very little expense and trouble.

The DX is not a flagship product, it is a niche product. While there is some overlap in those two categories (flagships tend to be expensive and through that slightly niche) that is not the case here. The DX Graphite is simply the DX with a newer generation screen and a different colour case. It wasn't apparently worth producing a real new version. Thus the DXG is second generation hardware, and is limited to second-generation firmware -- which means 2.5, same as the Kindle 2.

You knew when you bought it that it had second generation firmware, and thus hardware, and even a remote modicum of thought could have told you that there was never going to be an upgrade to 3.x in the future.
