The one from weeks ago is actually fanfiction, not the real book.

10 chapters in PDF text format. The entire book is out as photos. It's not the photos as PDF, it's text as PDF. Supposedly it's being typed in from the photos.

well, i've read the first 10 chapters of that leaked/fake book in lrf-form. Although I did found some discrepancies, it's written quite well. Not really a punishment to read it, unlike the other fanfiction thingie that was out.
I'm not too sure if it's the real thing though, but I must say I'm fascinated by the dark force of internet > ![]() The story has a plothole that I can't explain. And also, the sudden use of a phrase like "spread like cancer" does not seems JKRy to me... nonetheless, wether it's fake or not, it's a good read while waiting for the real deal, because it's written quite well if it's fake. |

The leaked 10 chapters is the real thing. It's been spot checked against the photos of the book. So unless those photos are faked, then the 10 chapters are the read deal.

That site in the Netherlands has a very funny replacement logo on their splash page at the moment. A mock book page shows the logo with the text *TPB* and the Torrent on Fire. (*TPB* is here to replace the name of the site.)
Even if I had no interest in reading the book, I have to say I would find all of this vastly entertaining. Publisher illusions about their control over the market don't seem to be holding up very well. BBC News reports that copies were shipped early by some online retailers, so they probably will have an extraordinarily hard time finding the culprit who took the photos. But I have more respect for the photo taker than the person who's selling an early copy on eBay for $250. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6905873.stm |

Teleread has a report that the EXIF data on the images shows the serial number of the canon picture it was taken with, so if the pirate registered the camera, he could be found.

It completely baffles me why people would want to spoil this "event" for genuine Harry Potter fans by releasing "spoilers" from the book before its official release on Saturday. Is it really too much to ask to wait until then?

My thoughts also. We have to voluntarily blind ourselves not to get tipoffs.

I just want to say, if anybody plans on posting Harry Potter spoilers, do it in a thread that says (Spoilers) in it so we know NOT to look.

It doesn't particularly bother me that someone has read the book before the release date, but there's a large email list called "Harry Potter for Grownups" that I'm on sometimes. They had planned to shut down over the weekend to give everyone a chance to read the book without worrying about tripping over spoilers. They just made an emergency decision to shut down early, because some very persistent people were insisting on sending spoilers -- sometimes disguised as innocuous emails on other topics-- to the whole list. I can't understand trying to ruin people's fun that way.

I mean, I've seen Adult Harry Potter fan-fiction (gives a *whole new* meaning to Chamber of Secrets ;-)) but I doubt that's what this is... Are there actually multiple versions of the books? What are the differences? |

The different between the adult version and the other is the cover. The story inside is exactly the same.

The latest HP7 consists of a 397 page pdf in a rar file called HP7_[DSB].rar. It has 36 chapers and an Epiloque. The quality is OK. Better not download it though.
