it basically means you have your perception "crosswired" for some of them numbers have a colour, or smells a shape or colors a sound or a haptic sensation "added"
it's not halucinatory random, so for a single synaesthetic who percieves lets say numbers in colours and therein a 2 as prussian blue and a 7 as green this connections won't change. for such a person it is from within their perception a hard fact that 13 is brown, or a guitar sounds silky and a violin plushy etc. some make money off that (as kenny sure knows) -> Kandinsky |

Yup. I don't know if that qualifies as partial synaesthesia but for me the numbers 30 to 39 have always been dark green, 50 to 59 show a sort of light blue, 20 to 29 yellow, 40 to 49 are orange ... I don't know if that stuck from some display of the numbers I saw as a child (I can't recall seeing or owning one with those colours) or if it just came naturally. What I can say is that it always struck me as odd (and still does) that many or most other people (?) apparently don't associate numbers and colours in such a way ![]() |

Beethoven's 5th Symphony has always been kind of a dark olive green for me, while Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz has always been mostly black. I suppose that qualifies me as partly synesthetic as well. Doesn't happen with all music.

I never cared much for any of those Beethoven movies.

What a great group of friends!
It's easy to see how you (KC) got so much support from your friends . This group is "quite a character!". It's nice to see the concerned tones turn to relief and lightheartedness. Congratulations KC. Great to know you are doing so much better in heart, mind, body and spirit!
Thank you friends for letting me hang out with you while you were in need of love and support for KC, Moth, and each other. I didn't let a day go by without popping in and checking on you. I can leave now with a smile ![]() If you don't mind I will pop in from time to time and easedrop. ![]() You guys are a nice and slightly twisted ( I mean that in only the most complimentary way) Group of people. ![]() |

But to be honest - I don't relate to colours at all - I don't go warm & fuzzy over pink or feel love with red. Colours for me just are. Just like numbers are numbers, days are days. No associations whatsoever - is there an "-esia" for that too? |

Certain smells bring back memories for me.
Rain after drought; Rhodesia(Zimbabwe) as a youngster. Evening in Paris Perfume: My mother Lavendar: My grandmother I am sure that we all have associations with certain aromas. Cheers |

True!
![]() I can relate to that ... twisted, as in the idiomatic expression around the bend, and idio- from Greek idios 'own, distinct'. Our brains work in strange ways. With some people, certain smells, such as perfume, hydrocarbons and/or smoke can trigger intensely painful cluster headaches. As regards numbers and colours, kids often use coloured number sets. Given that certain smells can quickly evoke memories, maybe in some cases (ie non-hardwired synesthesia), when some people see certain numbers, they similarly invoke particular colours associated with their childhood memories.
