Maybe April should install DHTML and see if graphics work. I'd like to know if that fixes it.

I just now installed that DHTML and no it still will not let me add a graphic for a front page, etc........... so that didn't help.

For whatever it's worth, I bit the bullet and installed Book Designer, mostly using Brian's procedure.

Except. I used the version of BD (and the update) that Jon created for MobileRead, not the version on the Book Designer site. And I created it in a folder on the C drive, not in Program Files. I figured Brian had had success and that's what I wanted, so I did it mostly his way.

I created two small "books", one forSony Reader, and one for the Kindle, using a photo of the author, and was successful creating them both.

I also installed the last version of Book Cleaner.

Many thanks to both Brian and Jon for their help.

There is a way to get graphics to work....

Code:
regsvr32 /u comct232.ocx
regsvr32 comct232.ocx
Do that from a command prompt. C:\windows\system32 is where that ocx file lives in case you need to go to it.

What to do in simple easy steps...
1. Start
2. Run
3. CMD
4. cd \
5. cd windows
6. cd system32
7. regsvr32 /u comct232.ocx
8. regsvr32 comct232.ocx
9. exit

now try Book Designer and see if graphics work. If not, try a reboot and then try again. Should work after that.
Okay I just did this and it failed..... step seven succeeded..... step 8 did not..... so now what do I do? I made a copy of the registry, should I double click on that and undo what I did? Hope someone is around today
HELP'

Did you run the command prompt as administrator (right click on it in the programs menu & select 'run as administrator')? If not I wonder if thats what's causing problems. Just a thought, I'm not sure.

No, I did exactly as said in steps 1 -7, nothing asked me about administrator rights or anything.......
and I don't know if having windows open to do this mattered, but I had to see what I had to type in there. I knew I shouldn't have tried this.

Yes, I agree to try what AnemicOak suggested.

And once running the command prompt as administrator, try the steps again.

Okay I rebooted and it didn't help. I cannot add the book cover page to the bookmaking.

thanks for helping me register my dll file back though, I would have been a very unhappy camper if that didn't go back the way it should have been.

It's odd that graphics do not work. I'll have a look around the forum and see what else others have said to get things to work.

I think on the wiki there was some other file to mess with as well If I remember reading the steps, ha ha, I don't know if I want to go there or not.......

It wouldn't let me browse and add the file, it would not let me drag and drop.

right now I am going to take the dog to the park, come home with some chinese and then see what happened around here, or if I need to try something else (if I am brave enough to continue).......

Thanks Jon

There is this thread from Andy/Afro, which is echoing what Brian said he used to get his to work, and which I also used successfully.

http://https://www.mobileread.com/for...ighlight=vista

I've probably got the least amount of computer expertise of anyone reading this thread, but I can identify with April's feelings about all this.

April, at the Command Prompt, after signing on as Administrator, at the cursor I put: CD \BD Program\Book Designer 4.0, hit enter, and then added the regsvr32 GflAx.dll and hit enter again and the program said it had registered successfully. "BD Program" is the name I've given the folder on the C Drive that contains Book Designer.

Feel free to ignore all this if Jon or someone else comes up with something else they feel you should do.

Jim

If, after hitting that first enter you don't get a complaint from the program, you're good to go. I played around with it for quite a while before I saw, sort of, how it worked. Note that you do need the space after the CD.

I will look at this but I did not install my version of bookdesigner into c/program files/bookdesigner....... I made mine in c:/bookdesigner...... so not sure if the above would pertain to me. I will check it out, but like I said, not sure I am going to be that courageous, LOL.

One could hope that perhaps whoever wrote this program will rewrite it and make it workable for VISTA........ Other than that, although curious as to why, I am just happy that I can put a book in the program/run it and it work. A picture is not that important to me...... but I have my curious side, which at times, can also be a downfall, if you catch my drift <G>

Damn. Sorry, that's just me not know how to use these controls. Put "Vista" in the search block, go to page three and you'll see a thread with just 1 entry in it by Andy/Afro, and that's it. I put the other information about the command prompt because I didn't think his was clear.
