Pretty amazing when you know you aren't at your best, and you still make the grade!
![]() The big elitist house sounds like a great chance to get experience and maybe even get your name known by someone whether it works out or not. Keep on casting your bread on the water and something good will come in. ![]() |

Or fish, people always forget about the fish when there are ducks about.

Come to think of it, birds like bread also, and might snatch some off the water. If they aren't too distracted by all the ducks and fish, that is...

Popcorn works better, for both fish and ducks.
![]() I have some familiarity with anxiety disorders. There's a biofeedback videogame I got after I got sued a couple of years ago (long story, not that interesting) that has really helped me out. I was able to use it to find some good strategies to help myself calm down when I'm getting into a negative feedback loop. The game is called "The Journey to Wild Divine" and you can see more at http://wilddivine.com. Used copies are usually available on eBay etc. Best of luck! |

What is it with Academic persons and anxiety disorders? My academic person wife says those calm-down-to-win biofeedback games make her nervous. (sigh)
I take it as evidence that graduate degrees make people crazy, or at least a little nuts. ![]() Sanity's overrated anyway. ![]() |

The wild divine one is pretty nice, actually. Reminds me of Myst in terms of graphics. Has a bit of plot, a bit of philosophy, and nice music (IMHO). But to each her own.

I expect some variants of anxiety respond better to that sort of thing than others.

If only I could find a game that would help me not be an arrogant jerk, that's be great.
![]() Actually, MR has helped me a great deal with that particular "personality disorder." ![]() |

I actually own a "Thoughtstream" biofeedback system (it comes with some little computer games, but they are pretty weak) but I have not used it for a while...it was interesting, but not really all that much of a revelation, and the included games did not really help m much, I rather "trained" with the system alone.
Unfortunately my disorder is a generalized one, so it's rather hard to treat... |

I've heard people found some success with this program, and the founder has an interesting story. But I don't know if any "program" really can be generally effective.
http://www.stresscenter.com/program.htm And there's this book by her also... http://www.amazon.com/Panic-Power-Te...659456-1626248 |

She advertises on the radio station here in Houston. Seems like a very calm person these days.

I've seen the Thoughtstream one, I think. The difference I noticed with the Wild Divine one is that the game is actually fairly good as a game, as well as being reasonably effective as a way of exploring what increases or reduces anxiety for you. I'm one of those people who doesn't like exercise for the sake of exercise -- I'd rather go on a bike ride or plant a tree in the yard or something like that. The WD game felt more like doing something enjoyable than "exercise." YMMV ("your mileage may vary" -- the results may vary for you.)
The "Attacking Anxiety" program seems sensible based on the outline, but at US$495, pretty pricey. The reviews of the book at Amazon were overall positive. I'll consider it. I like learning from books, and also from learning games (I'm studying learning games at the graduate level now), but not so much from tapes or CDs, which I usually find tedious. |

Well hello again...
Tomorrow (Wednesday) is the next stage of my journey. This time it's going to be at 13:00 German Summer Time, so I won't have to spend the night in a hotel, I can drive there on the day of the audition itself. It's again a "preliminary round", so I won't get a job tomorrow, but the second round for this one is next Monday, so if I pass the preliminary I'll have to go the same way again only a few days later... ![]() This is a rather "big player" and my chances are rather slim, but I'll give it a go...who knows...it might just work... ![]() |
