@aceflor:
There's quite a few things going on here, but let's tackle them one at a time. First of all, you have a tag with a comma in it, which is causing a problem: m/m romance, contemporary Eliminate that tag in your database using the bulk tag editor. I know that it's probably taking a while to build the catalog, so do some experimenting to find the smallest set of books you can use that cause the error. G |

'multiple entries for <author> with differing Author Sort metadata ...
Do a search for all titles by Author. You have differing sort Author fields for some of these titles. You can set them all at the same time by drag-selecting all books by the author, typing 'E' to invoke the metadata bulk editor, then setting Author sort for all of them at the same time. The parse errors are because you have some illegal xml, most likely in your description metadata. It's non-fatal; calibre will recover. It could also be in the author name(s). Hope that helps. G |

Some Authors are standalone, then paired with different combinations of authors for different titles. I will check a few by hand since I do have the complete Log here |

For the warnings, each unique author string is treated as a different author. For example,
John Smith is different than John Smith & Bob Jones When you're doing bulk metadata editing, just make sure to select all books whose authors are the same before applying a single Author sort value. |

GRiker - Here's the job log
Thanks for your help with this. Converterd the catalog with new version of Calibre. Based on the log it shows 1079 books, however once I loaded the catalog onto my Kindle in Mobi version it only shows 6 pages which includes only my A titled books. HELP!

Using the list in the log as a guide, review each problem book's metadata, in particular the comments field. Tags like <P>, <B>, <I>, etc are causing problems. You have three choices:
Once I get a better handle on this problem, I'll put a filter in for those tags. G @aceflor: Try the same thing with your books listed with suspect metadata Last edited by GRiker; 02-02-2010 at 06:33 PM. |

@Griker
so I cleaned everyhting I could see in the log, but it still does not work. Here the latest log: Spoiler:
Prodigal Summer seems to be a problem, as well as the catalog itself (???). What do you think ? Edited : Well, I went to correct those 2 plus a book which apparently had the word "descriptions" concealed somewhere in the title (very weird), and now it works. Yay ! If you can put back the title with "descriptions" so that it breaks, and create a ticket with the problem MOBI file attached, I can find that bug.

GRiker - thanks ! I cleaned up all the comments sections taking out the various tags like <P>, <E>, etc.
Under the instructions you posted the following: Marker tags are used to tell the catalog builder to mark an E-book as read, to exclude an E-book from generated catalogs, and to add additional notes to a E-book's description page. Don't include this book (default: '~,Catalog') is used to skip an E-book when generating the catalog. So yesterday, I did the following ~, Completed which I thought would exclude any books I have tagged as completed from showing up in my catalog. In other words, I only want books in the catalog to reflect UNREAD or books not completed. I created a tag called Completed and each book I finish, I tag with this is Calibre. QUESTION: Did I do the command correctly? The reason I ask is there were books tagged as Completed showing up in the catalog. |

You understand the intent of the marker tags, let's just make sure you have added them correctly to your books.
The default of '~,Catalog' is two tags - '~' and 'Catalog'. There should not be a space in between those tags in the EPUB/MOBI Catalog dialog. You've changed that to '~,Completed'. That tells the Catalog builder to skip any books that have the tag '~' or 'Completed' when building the catalog. On the books which you've completed reading, if you inspect their metadata, in the tags field you should have 'Completed', plus any other relevant genre tags - Fiction, ... They should be in a list with commas separating the tags, and no spaces: Code:
Completed,Fiction,Adventure One other tip: when you're experimenting with tags, drag-select a couple of books with the tags of interest, build it as an epub, and look at the results with calibre's built-in viewer. That gives you a very quick means of confirming that your tag set is working the way you expect it to. By selecting two or more books in the main window, only those books will be candidates for the catalog. And remember to use the bulk metadata tag editor to set/clear a tag for a group of books. Less likelihood of typos. G Last edited by GRiker; 02-03-2010 at 06:57 PM. |
