with my schedule I was almost never there when they were there. if I was, I was usually working on other stuff, cooking, working on MY homework, helping teens with their homework, working horses, etc

That's exactly how I feel about automobile maintenance. I did my own for YEARS! Then I bought a BMW, and the included maintenance was wonderful! I never looked back, now just drop it off at the dealer and let them get dirty.
