Kobo Discounts: Coupon Codes + Discussion

Yep kobo's got the 3 for 2 valentines offer a week after Valentine's Day in Aus. (Read the tag it says valentine's).

Guess they forgot to include it for us last weekend when they had it on in the US and CA(?).

Hmm...after playing a round of contest questions yesterday, I found that the accounts that answered the first question on their own are those I registered the first time when the U.S. contest site changed from http://contest.kobo.com to http://www.kobo.com/contest. At that time the UK contest site was still using the former, so I played on both sites. It's only until the UK contest site has also ceased using the old website that I registered a few more accounts at the U.S. site, and those accounts didn't have the strange first-question-already-answered situation.

So, yeah, I wonder what Kobo has done to those first batch of registered accounts...

And I've wondered if the people who received emails advising them of Contest codes, even when they hadn't played in the Contest got our game 1 codes. That is the auto completed game 1 on my Contest account went sailing off to someone else's email address and not mine. Because I didn't receive emails for those auto answered Games.

Doesn't answer why game 1 was auto answered though, and only apparently on random accounts.

I've gotten the notification email with the coupon for at least one contest account (haven't checked them all). In fact, that's how I knew the contest has started.

But of course, no email notification for the phony email addresses.

Man, haven't got a single good code, and only one 35% in 4 days.....that has to be against the odds. 1/60 was 35, and nothing better. Oh well, guess I'm not buying any books, which is good since there's no gift card burning a hole in my pocket this month.

Seriously, thanks. I don't read indie, though. The books in question are somewhat pricey mainstream-published non-fiction tomes, just not agency. Kobo used to carry most of what I wanted, but I'm coming up with bupkes right now.

Mind you, I'm not upset. I've got plenty to read and if I can't get 'em from Kobo, there's always the library or paper or Kindle option. I just wonder if Kobo is focusing more on popular books or if this is just another instance of Kobo's being Kobo.

To make matters worse, some of Kobo's prices seem 'out of whack'. I read mostly non-fiction also, and these are usually in the range of US$10-20. I just checked a book in the Canadian Kobo store (the Edge of the World by Michael Pye) and it was listed at CDN$35 (!!) while the Kindle version is only CDN$22. Crazy. Why should the Kobo price be 50% higher? [The hardcover version is only CDN$26 at Amazon].
