Minor bug: If you have a condition on a chain but no tooltip, attempting to run the chain with non-valid conditions shows an empty tooltip: at the end.

Question: You can't have two chains with the same name. What happens if you have a chain variation with the same name as an actual chain?

You can have one chain variant with the same name as the actual chain. If you have more than one variant with the same name (you shouldn't), the last one wins.

Currently, when you rename a chain, it breaks any Chain Callers using it. Is this something easily fixed?

No. You have to traverse all the chains to look for any additional chain caller action referencing the chain, and rename it there also. Then, you have to go and traverse every event to see whether the chain is attached to any of them, and then rename it there as well. Also if the user presses Cancel, you will have to go back and undo all these changes.

Too much work and code for something the user can do himself. It is on the user to rename the chain in the appropriate places. Action Chains dialogs already notifies you "in the error cell" of the chains that have problems.

Plugin seems to work as expected on Calibre 6.99! I was able to successfully open configurations (including all the ones for specific Actions) and run a chain.

How does Chain Caller work when there's chain variants? It seemed to pick the first variant but I'm not entirely sure. (It also seemed to be slower, but I'm also not sure of that.)

It does not call any variant at all. It calls a vanilla version of the chain with no _variant_argument at all. It might look to you like it is calling a certain variant if it happens that you set that variant's argument to an empty string.

Remember that the chain variants feature is experimental and are only available after setting a the experimental plugin tweak. As such, it is not yet integrated into other actions the way you were expecting it to.

Having said that, there is an option in the chain caller settings to pass the caller's arguments to the the called chain. You can use this option to pass whatever _variant_argument you want, by using a "Chain Variables" action in the calling chain.

Ah yeah, that makes sense. In this case, the 'first' variant didn't have any specific actions attached to it, while the second one had some additional actions.

Here is a test version that fixes a date bug reported here. I did not have much time to test, so please test and report back.

I can't figure out how to use the plugin. I installed it and restarted calibre. The plugin seems active.

The instructions in the first post on this thread reads:
