And, speaking of tropes (Rockford, this is all your fault!), seriously, a copper, of almost any rank, living in a houseboat/riverboat, in CHELSEA? Anybody here have any idea what boat living costs? You always see this nonsensical Bohemian, cheap image of boat living. Generally speaking--there are no absolutes, other than "all humans die," but it's bl**dy expensive living. Not cheap and there is nothing cheap from one end of Chelsea to the other, for crying out loud. In the center of the city, moorings frequently run 20K pounds/year. That's not chump change. Granted, housing in London ain't cheap, either but...what is it with coppers living on the beach, mooring on the Thames (or Chelsea Harbor), and so on? We all know that they can't afford it. It's irksome. Not sure how I feel about the new sidekick. She's not made much of an impression on me thus far. Sigh, and I'd really looked forward to this, because pickings are SO SO slim of late. I'm getting ready to do another run of something like...IDK, Columbo or the like. Hitch |

I'm slogging through Ray Donovan - never watched it on TV - reminds me of The Sopranos and Billions -- deadly serious violence/crime interspersed with moments of really black non-PC comedy and tragedy. And all the characters are non-sympathetic lusting after money, fame, or prestige. Jon Voight's character Mickey is particularly slimy

I watched the first season of Evil A long time ago (on Netflix or something) and have been watching seasons 2 & 3 on Paramount+. The sudden and drastic up-tick in sex and profanity tells me S3 is streaming only. That's annoying enough (I'm not a prude: I just like a consistent production), but what really drives me bonkers in this show is Kristen Bouchard's four daughters constantly screaming at the same time as each other. Whoever thought that was a good idea needs to be taken out and flogged!

I finished watching Who Is Erin Carter? tonight. It was over the top with violence for me and not believable. Who could be as injured as she was (shot, for example) and still run around and go after people? Part of what drew me to this series was that Douglas Henshall was in it, but he was a villain and he looked awful (kind of like a particular American politician who I cannot stand).

We watched Dead In A Week (Or Your Money Back), a 2018 comedy/drama film. An enjoyable farce concerning suicide and assassins.

OTOH, I agree that the Laurell-K-Hamilton-ing of Evil (sex more than anything else) is really...tedious. I loathe sex-in-lieu-of-plot; it's why I stopped watching GOT (do I really need to watch a gynecological exam once a week? And if "honest nudity" is so effing important to "understanding" the plot, howcum the boy bits are always covered up, eh?) It's infuriating that American TV producers (and to some extent, movie-makers)have learnt that they can save themselves writing costs, etc. on an ongoing basis by appealing to the prurient aspects of viewers' tastes. Me? I WANT PLOT. I don't need to see knocking boots. Been there, done that, more than once. My imagination hasn't yet died off, either. I mean, what, are we all involuntary celibates, that we need to see two characters having sex, because our brains are so depleted that--gasp--we can't imagine it?! One has to wonder how we survive reading, then.... Hitch |

I recorded the first episodes but unfortunately my 99 cent subscription ends next week so have to wait until Black Friday for the rest. No problem, VdV S1 was disappointing and expectations aren't high for a Walker-less Unforgotten...

I'm a huge Walker fan, but I still didn't hate the replacement. I hope they don't mean to keep her in the cliched anti-Cassie (or foil for Sunny) role for too long, though. It's understandable at first, but would quickly grow annoying if it doesn't evolve.
