You should be able to downgrade to 3.14 as you said, there is a link to it in the firmware thread, and then just leave wifi off while you test it.

My thinking though is for a new firmware to be out before the reader is actually in many hands is that there was something equally or even worse wrong with 3.14.0.

The only problem I see with 3.15.0 is the slower page turns unless you repeatedly keep turning pages. If you do that, you can see the Glo HD is more than capable of doing speedier page turns. And in the meantime, I just start the page turn a bit sooner than I normally would while reading which solves the problem.

I agree. Mostly.

The problem with JB's is that the Kobo display is different from store to store. My local one doesn't even have the Glo HD on display. When I've gone in to others, they didn't have the new Kobos (and some of the old ones) initialised, as all you could see was a select language screen and a connect to a computer screen.

Apparently there is a 'Kobo guy' down here that comes to the stores to initialise the display devices, but I can't see that he does anything.

Kobo really should have a demo mode, or should ship pre-initialised devices to stores for display.

Kobo DO have a demo mode....

type demo mode on into the search bar, and then demo mode off to revert to normal operation.

My "problem" is that when it arrives here, somewhere in june, I can have it for 14 days, then I have to send it back.
If there is no new firmware before that date or the new firmware doesn't fix the problems people called earlyer, I am stuck with it..
But then on the other hand, if it does upgrade to 3.15 after installation, the 3.14 firmware can be installed over 3.15 and then the setup doesn't have to be performed again, so just let wifi off must prevent it from again upgrading to 3.15... or do I again miss something ??
If you are a Windows or Mac user, you can easily prevent the initial upgrade of firmware. You use the Kobo desktop app to do the setup and remove the firmware upgrade files before disconnecting the device. I did do this after a factory reset to see the differences. I can't remember if it was closer to 3.13.0 or 3.15.0. But, I didn't see the performance problems that others are reporting with 3.15.0, so I wouldn't choose to go back.

Simple.. as long as it doesn't get ejected,you can go to the .kobo directory and remove the upgrade,then disconnect... didn't thought about that.. I didn't installed the desktop software because it interfears with my adobe digital editions.
I do hope Kobo developes a new firmware fast,because from what I read on other boards,people bring their Kobo HD back because of the lag and other things,not realising it is only the software (I hope) but if you are used to a Sony, you get most of the time just one update and after that there is none in years,so a lot of people don't realise that Kobo brings an update almost every month.
I hope u are betatesting a new firmware already

How? I can't think of any reason for this and have never had any problems. I don't think I would have both open when the ereader is connected, but even that is unlikely to be a problem.

I could tell you but...

Kobo explicitly asked about the performance problems. But, I as I don't see the problem, I can't help. I'm considering putting the H2O back to 3.13 and seeing if I can see any difference as I upgrade. I might do that over the weekend if nothing more exciting comes up.

Do you have /.kobo/slideshow/dragon/xx/ With the xx being a two letter language abbreviation? Are there ~10 .png files there?

I have replaced the ad/feature description pages, with .png of my own.

I think the slideshow function disappeared for the "dragon" at one point, in the firmware updates.

Luck;

In the past they both pop up with an acsm file for drm protected Google books,resulting in one of them saying that the file was already in use.
Had the same with ADE and the Sony desktop software.

To be honest, I don't have it with the Aura HD myself,but i don't have a Glo HD to test it (yet) but I can't denied the opinion of people here saying they have problems with the HD in this topic..
So I was hoping that one of the testers with a Glo HD has found something that triggers the behave some people mention here.

I have them,and watched the files manually with a browser, but it doesn't start any slideshow itself by typing "demo mode on" or off.

I enter the "demo mode on" with "Bookstore" showing in the box to the right. Then when I change the box to "Library", the demo mode starts.

Do you have /.kobo/slideshow/ then a folder with the codename for the H2O?

The recent firmware updates still include the slideshow folder, but only have subfolders for a few devices. That the folders are there for any devices would indicate that the code for the demo function is still in the firmware. You might be able to add the folders yourself, and make it work.

Luck;
Ken

Yup.. did the same, but doesn't do anything.
Enter demo mode on while the checkbox is on library,don't press enter,then switch to library, it keeps standing there,nothing happens on the Aura HD.

And when I press go in stead of switching between Bookstore to Library it wants to access wifi, in Library go doesn't do anything as it doesn't find a book with that title.
The files are there, in 3 or 4 device directory's which each have their language files on it, in the directory that represents the Glo there are 13 or so for each language.

Didn't tried it with the Glo.. to hot in the bedroom
