[GUI Plugin] Kindle Collections (old)

Is it on the right side? (which would mean its already on the toolbar, but maybe too far to the right to see?)

Remember it will only appear if the device is connected.

If not, try adding it to the menubar when a device is connected to see if it appears on that bar (at the very top of the window).

Finally try re-installing. Select Preferences->Plugins->Get new plugins, select All from the drop-down and reselect Kindle Collections, click Install. Then check the toolbar preferences again.

To confirm its installed ok, go to Preferences->Plugins, expand User Interface Plugins, select Kindle Collections, then click Customize - it should bring up the customization screen.

Does the menu entry for Kindle Collections appear if you add it to the menubar when a device is connected?

From what I can tell the Kindle has a very flat directory structure ie I cant create an author catagory and then put seperate collections inside that authors catagory, does anyone know of a work around? some of my prefered authors have multiple collections it would be nice to be able to unclutter my opening screen

@Pendragon - you cannot nest collections inside collections, it is a limitation of the Kindle. Don't use the term "directory" though, because you can in fact in the file system have the books nested. However file structure is not used for the display of your books on the home screen.

I am SO CONFUSED!! I obviously know enough to be dangerous, but fortunately, it's mostly to myself....

I have Kindle Collections installed and it works great! THANKS!

I want to create collections by Series (that was easy!), and then sort within each collection by series_index (also fairly easy).

But I can't figure out how to remove the italicized text "series_index" from the collection title. What appears on my Kindle 3 home screen is something like:

series_indexTravis McGee (19)

My metadata plugboard says:
Format: Any Format
Device: Kindle2
Source template: {series_index:0>2s| | - }{title}
Destination field: title

Any suggestions on how to eliminate that "series_index" text from my collection series names?

I'm a little confused about what has the text "series_index" in it - is it the Collection name, or the Titles of books in the collection?

How are you creating your Collections? Can you post your Settings data from the report generated when you run Create Collections, and possibly some of the collection names that are generated. If you are just creating from the Series column, with no other settings, then only the Series Name should show up in Collection names.

The plugboard above is only used for the Title of books. So it won't affect Collection names. Once you open a collection you should see a list of your book titles with the series_index shown (and not containing the text "series_index") if you are using the plugboard you listed.

Some more details should help find the issue.

Plugin it's active and preview without saving working. But don't show icon on toolbar

Might need some screenshots for this one. Your Toolbar/top of main screen, your toolbar->preferences screen for 'toolbar when a device is connected'

You can also PM me the contents of your gui.json file in your Calibre configuration directory - that file defines what calibre will show where among other things.

It was the Collection name.....

The fact you asked the questions you did and made me look at the settings in a new fashion (from the log), I was able to see the error of my ways!!!

In my false starts and poor understanding of the process, I had experimented with "Prefix: series_index" and had never removed that from the plugin settings.

Removing the offending entry (which was obvious once you pointed me in the right direction) cleared up the problem.

You are obviously a wizard, and a kind and helpful person!!
