Bob,
Hey thanks for the encouragement for the sequel! I've been spending time working on it as well. Been doing a lot of reading and trying to get out there and promote the first Time Cavern book so I have a few readers for the sequel.
Glad you enjoyed it!

I'm on Treasure Island right now. It's making me in the mood for hush puppies (Long John Silver's)

I am reading some crime books by Arnaldur Indridason which take place on Iceland and I like them a lot. I am reading them in Swedish but the English titles seems to be _The Death of a Monster_ (_Glasbruket_) and _Silence of the Grave_ (_Kvinna i grönt_). Both books won some price as best Nordic crime novel.

I've just started Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth, which a few people here (apparently expecting a fantasy novel) did not like much. It's a pretty fat book, so it seemed like a prime candidate for reading with my PRS-505.

Now reading Brisingr (in paper, as it was a gift and it's still rather difficult for people to give specific ebooks as gifts to one another). I'm a bit over halfway through. It's ok. Some bits are better than ok, some bits are somewhat tedious.

I heard that the series really dropped after the first book.

No, I'd say the second book was actually much better than the first-- the first was a straight-up "hero's journey," using a lot of very common tropes, whereas the second deconstructs the assumptions of the first in what I thought was a very clever way. But I suppose if someone just wanted to read the adventure story, they probably wouldn't like the second book.

Ahh maybe that's the problem. Drastic changes in style would probably account for complaints.

i started "Hunt for Red October" - Tom Clancy - yesterday.
so far it's not bad - a bit heavy on the technical side, but understandable.

to gmorton

i liked the "Pillars of earth" a lot.
Bought it when it came out, i guess it was 1989. At that time i lived in Istanbul Turkey and spent a lot for shipping to get it from Germany to Turkey.

When you are finished and liked it a lot - start over to "World without end". I liked that one, too - but made the mistake not to reread the pillars of earth before starting the new one. I hardly remembered the hints.

Finished Count of Monte Cristo. Unfortunately it was not as good as I expected it to be. I believe, that knowing what is going to happen, spoiled it a lot. There are still powerful emotions but....probably the last time I re-read the book.
Started Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb.

Where did you get it? I was under the impression that Mr. Clancy's works were unavailable as eBooks.
