I was surprised to see that Audible Standard is apparently not a membership that gets you member prices--I am seeing all full prices for purchases, which means my $20 isn't going to go as far as I expected. Still, it means a free book.

Let me know how large their unlimited catalog is. I'm fairly certain it's nowhere near the size of the Plus Catalog in the Premium and Plus memberships.

$9 to borrow one book and unlimited reading from a tiny catalog makes no sense to me. It's way overpriced.

Audible should have two plans:

1) the current Premium Plan that lets you keep one book from its entire catalog and unlimited borrowing from the Plus catalog.

2) and a Standard Plan that lets you borrow one book from its entire catalog and unlimited borrowing from the Plus catalog.

I don't think there is access to a catalog, unlimited or otherwise. All I see is that the Standard plan allows me to choose one book per month. The details say:

Select 1 audiobook a month from our entire collection of 1 million titles.
Listen to your selected audiobooks as long as you're a member.
Get unlimited access to bingeable podcasts.

I would NEVER pay $9/mo for this--it's absurd, especially without the perk of a member discount for a cash purchase.

Thanks. That's definitely a change from Audible's description of the benefits when they first introduced this plan. I just went back to check the benefits and Audible no longer mentions a small catalog of curated audiobooks to listen to. They changed it to unlimited podcast listening, which is ridiculous because you can get free access to podcasts from tons of websites. Shame on Audible.

No. The Standard Plan never included member discounts.

So $9/mo is outrageous just to borrow one audiobook in a plan that doesn't include member discounts.

Another option is to subscribe to Amazon Music Unlimited ($12/mo | $11/mo for Prime). In addition to unlimited listening to 100+ million songs, this plan also allows you to borrow one audiobook per month from Audible's entire catalog for no additional cost. But unlike the Standard Plan, you lose access to that book when you borrow a new book the following month. So for those who subscribe to Amazon Music Unlimited, don't forget to take advantage of this perk.
