Freud says it's because he's like her father. Jung says if he's like her father it's probably just meaningful coincidence. Adler says it's because she feels inferior.

It's not as simple as to tell him things straight- he's not the kind of person who would understand that. (Sometimes it happens: a friend of mine dumped her boyfriend and she was quite gentle until, apparently, he said something like "but it's just temporary, isn't it"- at that point she was quite enraged- I can remember a lenghty phone call . There's none so deaf as he who will not hear.)

As for the repeating of the mistake, well, I think the mistake is called love, and you can't avoid it- there's always too little of that. On the other hand, what one can do is try to work it out, which is what I am used to do and apparently he isn't, which lead to lot of "fumbling with truth" on his side (= lying) and then a lot of badly-thought action afterwards.

On the hand of frequenting, well, he's afraid of the Library where I usually go to work, because "there are people I hate there". (Well, the inmates aren't always the best, but the library is very good and I think it's a fantastic place to work into...) So I don't have that problem that much. The "staying friends" would meant for him- I suppose- go out together. Yes, and asses will fly.

(The more I think about that, the more I think I'm better off without him :P)

Well, my dad isn't like that he can be quite irritating on his own, but on normal ranges :P (everybody has the right to be irritating ). I don't get the Adler thing- can you explain it? (I did study a bit of Freud, but most psychological schools are outside my range of usual reading)

FB begins to become a bane :P I have my first ex there, and of course the most recent. The one before this one (with whom I'm still friends) tells me that it's a conspiration, but I guess that's too much oh well, even my mother knows there are possible permanent screens on posts, and she isn't even there!

Adler started under Freud but broke away from psychoanalysis and founded his own school of thought on psychotherapy. He was later cited as influential in the writings of Frankl and Maslow (he of the "hierarchy of needs"). I just picked him because he's one of the founding fathers of psychoanalysis along with Freud and Jung; I of course don't know you well enough to say that any or all of these are descriptive of you, I was just trying to lighten things up a bit. Dennis does bring up a valid point though; some soul-searching may be in order to prevent a repeat of Mr. Eight-Year-Old.

Let me get this straight:
Juliette's exboyfriend is a total rectum,
so that means Juliette needs therapy?

Juliette's ex needs a prolonged beating.
Juliette needs to meet a true gentleman.
And some people really should stop watching Dr. Phil.

Ditto. Sorry, but I find quite a bit offensive having me there. I'm not telling I'm perfect. I can understand that a rant like mine is a good trigger for past situations (who hasn't left and who hasn't been left?), but amongst adults rationality should be the rule.

So: peace!

You're not cold or cruel or anything like that!! As everyone else has said there is no reason in the world why you should be expected to remain friends with him, and even less reason why he should expect anything from you except, possibly, a bare minimum of civility.

Maybe you and Catire should PM each other, his break up might be more recent so you can help him over that part and he can help you ignore the 8 year old

Stupid state of Texas. My hubby's last day working for the state at the youth prison was a month ago. They told him that he wouldn't pay him on the NORMAL paydate at the end of the month, but on August 15. That wasn't so bad, not happy about it, but, ok, whatever.

Check account today, no pay. Called up, played 'pass the phone call' and learned that they will not direct deposit for someone who no longer works for the state, it's a different procedure.
Then were is our money? Seems the person doing the checks is on jury duty.
I want our money.
Here it is, want to pick it up?
NO, it's over a 3 hour drive there, why would I do your work for you?
Should we mail it?
Well, DUH, yes.
OK, it will be certified mail, so it will take about 3-4 days, then you'll have to take the notice you get to the post office to actually pick up the check.
How about you freeze your next paycheck for a month and see how you feel? I don't care if it is the comptroller's fualt, my husband did the work, and you need to get us our money. Thankfully he is away from working for the state, and this isn't likely to entice him BACK to teaching in a youth facility in the near future.

By the time his check comes in I'l have my next (and last) pay from my last job. Understand, he hasn't gotten paid by them since the end of JUNE, and the new job doesn't pay until late SEPTEMBER.

They just don't make 'em like they used to. Eight or so years ago, I had a Logitech Cordless Trackman Trackball. I loved it. Heavy usage, never missed a beat. It was in the box with my computer that never made it to Illinois. Since at the time it was like a 75.00 piece of equipment, I didn't even attempt to replace it. Well, a few months back, Chris and I ran into one at the Tiger Direct store, and he insisted on getting it for me. They've come down *slightly* in price, but they still run about sixty bucks. Well, now it's peeling. There seems to be some sort of membrane on it, that evidently I managed to get a tear in, and now it's coming off. I swear it looks like a human after a heavy sunburn. It looks positively scabrous..and doesn't feel all that great to use, either. I posted a query on the Logitech forums before I left for work today, but I'm thinking I'll end up having to peel all of this stuff off...which probably won't do much for the looks of this trackball... It doesn't affect the performance at all, it just looks like I've mistreated it severely.
