It's easy for me. I didn't even like book one!

Heroes Die by Matthew Woodring Stover is $1.99 at Amazon US

Synopsis
Spoiler:
HEROES DIE
But Caine's no hero. He's an assassin.

Renowned throughout the land of Ankhana as the Blade of Tyshalle, Caine has killed his share of monarchs and commoners, villains and heroes. He is relentless, unstoppable, simply the best there is at what he does. He is free.

At home on Earth, Caine is Hari Michaelson, a superstar whose adventures command an audience of billions. Yet he is shackled by a rigid caste society, bound to ignore the grim fact that men die on a far-off world for the entertainment of his own planet--bound to keep his rage in check.

But now Michaelson has crossed the line. His estranged wife, Pallas Rill, has mysteriously disappeared in the slums of Ankhana. To save her, he must confront the greatest challenge of his life: a lethal game of cat and mouse with the most treacherous rulers of two worlds.

Matthew Woodring Stover has created a spectacular, page-turning epic where a Jackal-type assassin maneuvers through a vivid Tolkienesque world. With a plot as driven as its main character and drawn against a setting as vivid as the very best in fantasy, Heroes Die is a brilliant feat of the imagination.

Oh, thank you for this! I have some .mobis which are bundles, with all the books in one doc. It would be so nice to separate these into more manageable individual books. Your post made me go looking for a Calibre "MobiSplit" plugin, which brought me to this MobileRead post on the best way to accomplish this.

That's a 5-year-old post.

Just convert from Mobi to ePub with Calibre, use EPubSplit, then convert the separate books back from ePub to Mobi or AZW3.

X-link to the Comics megathread for aficionados of The X-Files, which is technically classed as science fiction (albeit putting a whole lot of fiction into the science):

Humble Comics Bundle The X-Files presented by IDW is good for the next two weeks, and contains both the new comics series continuation of the TV show (which itself is getting a miniseries revival), as well as the older GN adaptations of the TV episodes and tie-in novels (some written by Star Wars tie-in writer Kevin J. Anderson (ISFDB, Wikipedia)), and the old Topps Comics original comics stories (some of them written by horror novelist Stefan Petrucha (ISFDB, Wikipedia)), which I've read a good chunk of and consider to be quite good quality and recommended, if you're into spooky occult/weird nature research/advanced tech R&D conspiracy investigation stories.

ETA: 2 of the tie-in novels are prose versions, with the 3rd being a GN adaptation. And there's a new prose short story anthology as well at the top tier, with notable contributors like British Fantasy Award winner Tim Lebbon (ISFDB, Wikipedia).

Also, x-link to the DRM-free megathread for a few new bundles that might be of interest:

StoryBundle has a Sci-Fi Spectrum Bundle mostly with contributions from indie authors, as well as an Historical Fiction Bundle which contains two backlist historical pirate fantasy novels.

Humble Bundle also has the Humble Book Bundle DIY presented by Make which contains mostly science/tech self-instruction books, but does also contain a new anthology of sfnal technology short stories, and an history of steampunk which features Q&As with selected influential sfnal authors like Bruce Sterling (ISFDB, Wikipedia) and Margaret Atwood (ISFDB, Wikipedia), among others.

Pam Uphoff reminds me that

The Lawyers of Mars: Three Novellas
is free for a couple more days.

==
Lizards.

Xaero was a good IP lawyer, a junior partner with the family firm. Until she successfully defended an environmental terrorist. Now the Red Ever Mars rebels have kidnapped her cousin and something suspicious about the police response leads her to believe she'd better rescue Ralphe herself.

A spoof of lawyers and a look at what Martians might have done as their world died. A light-hearted series of adventures. With scales. And briefcases. And mad scientists.
==

I enjoyed the first of the linked Novellas when it was produced to distract someone from repeatedly asking Lois Bujold "is it ready yet" and have enjoyed rereading them all since.

No DRM

Actually, it's on the Kindle DotD, which is why it's cheaper in NA today.

It was also on sale for $1.99 at Kobo and B&N, and cheapskates could have used a Kobo coupon to drop the price even more.

No Return
by Zachary Jernigan

is $1.99 at Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/No-Return-Zach...ords=no+return

Below is the blurb:
On Jeroun, there is no question as to whether God exists--only what his intentions are.

Under the looming judgment of Adrash and his ultimate weapon--a string of spinning spheres beside the moon known as The Needle--warring factions of white and black suits prove their opposition to the orbiting god with the great fighting tournament of Tchootoo, on the far side of Jeroun's only inhabitable continent.

From the Thirteenth Order of Black Suits comes Vedas, a young master of martial arts, laden with guilt over the death of one of his students. Traveling with him are Churls, a warrior woman and mercenary haunted by the ghost of her daughter, and Manshep, a constructed man made of modular spheres possessed by the foul spirit of his creator. Together they must brave their own demons, as well as thieves, mages, beasts, dearth, and hardship on the perilous road to Tchootoo, and the bloody sectarian battle that is sure to follow.

On the other side of the world, unbeknownst to the travelers, Ebn and Pol of the Royal Outbound Mages (astronauts using Alchemical magic to achieve space flight) have formed a plan to appease Adrash and bring peace to the planet. But Ebn and Pol each have their own clandestine agendas--which may call down the wrath of the very god they hope to woo.

Who may know the mind of God? And who in their right mind would seek to defy him? Gritty, erotic, and fast-paced, author Zachary Jernigan takes you on a sensuous ride through a world at the knife-edge of salvation and destruction, in one of the year's most exciting fantasy epics.

The Alloy of Law: A Mistborn Novel
by Brandon Anderson

is $2.99 at

Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Alloy-Law-Mist...s=alloy+of+law

Kobo: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/eb...alloy-of-law-1

Below is the blurb:
Fresh from the success of The Way of Kings, Brandon Sanderson, best known for completing Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time®, takes a break to return to the world of the bestselling Mistborn series.

Three hundred years after the events of the Mistborn trilogy, Scadrial is now on the verge of modernity, with railroads to supplement the canals, electric lighting in the streets and the homes of the wealthy, and the first steel-framed skyscrapers racing for the clouds.

Kelsier, Vin, Elend, Sazed, Spook, and the rest are now part of history—or religion. Yet even as science and technology are reaching new heights, the old magics of Allomancy and Feruchemy continue to play a role in this reborn world. Out in the frontier lands known as the Roughs, they are crucial tools for the brave men and women attempting to establish order and justice.

One such is Waxillium Ladrian, a rare Twinborn, who can Push on metals with his Allomancy and use Feruchemy to become lighter or heavier at will. After twenty years in the Roughs, Wax has been forced by family tragedy to return to the metropolis of Elendel. Now he must reluctantly put away his guns and assume the duties and dignity incumbent upon the head of a noble house. Or so he thinks, until he learns the hard way that the mansions and elegant tree-lined streets of the city can be even more dangerous than the dusty plains of the Roughs.
