I do not want to fiddle with the buttons every time I touch the reader. And if I don't, the light stays on when I leave the reader. I think that's a bug. I expected to find a configuration setting for the frontlight, but I did not. For the time being, I have added a powerd:toggleFrontlight() in the reader.lua immediately after it turns the light on. Now it flashes shortly on startup, but at least it does not get turned on, which I definitely do not want by default. By default it should be off to avoid draining the battery.

It's the first time in my life when I see Lua code, but I have just decided to learn it starting today ;-). Hopefully I will manage to find a proper way to change the current application default. I was afraid to comment out the block referncing frontlight_intensity in reader.lua, because I did not know whether it is needed for proper initialization.

Now I need to setup an emulator for this. Connecting and disconnecting the device to test the change is... frustrating.

It sounds like you should checkout the project at Github. There is an emulator their.

Luck;

Or couldn't you adjust the zoom level to page width and select large margins? In defaults.lua you are able to set those margins to any size you fancy.
I'll look into it, thanks, but I haven't yet mastered the customizing of the lua file

The frontlight is tweaked in pull request 559. Further work is going on in issue 560.

Feel free to fork the koreader repository and work on it!

I am here to report a serious problem with koreader-kobo-arm-linux-gnueabihf-v2014.04-2-gf1a8970. With this version, KoboHD can't go asleep (or standby uses a lot of battery) when the cover is closed - the frontlight is off and on with the cover but battery runs out within a few days while with older versions the battery lasts a few weeks in "standby".

Does anyone have the same issue with this version? Thank you.

Is there a way to make it work for 3.3.0 on touch?
No chance so far
Thank you

Happy! thank you.

Thanks to all who contribute and have contributed to this/Koreader (my being able to properly read a pdf on an Eink device).

@enotar: Had some trouble too on my aura hd. "Installing" fmon's KoboRoot.tgz again fixed it. checked it over two reboots. I thought I was loosing my mind as a previous poster confirmed my fears he was running on 3.3.0.

- The issue with the backlight automagically being switched on I can confirm. Only options is to use interface-method to regulate the back/frontlight.
- Putting the device to sleep requires going back to Nickle (default UI If I understood correctly). It then executes all of my powerbutton actions.
<s>- In landscape, the page-flipping/scrolling isn't as nice as in portrait (only 2/3rd of the screen scrolls).
This can probably be configured in one of the config-files.</s>
Found the scrolling option... sry 'bout that.

I'm a new to this, so please do not take this wrongly; it is intended well :-)
- The "docs" are not easily found. A list with relevant config-files and their meaning would be convenient for my lazy-bum purposes (on the wiki).
- I understood this is based somewhere on muPDF. On my android tablet, it rocks! Could that experience be "transported"?

Thanks again and have a lovely night!

What version of koreader did you install? This issue should have been fixed in the release of May 9th.

Discussion on this topic on koreader github is here.

When you run into a problem, could you please test with the latest release? Especially with an important issue such as battery life!

As far as I know _nothing_ changed concerning standby/suspend in the last months or so.

The only place to switch the behavior of the Kobo with a sleep cover, is in the Kobo environment: Kobo Nickel> Settings> Light, suspend, energy> Sleepcover.

What did change in the last versions is that chrox implemented a plugin for network connectivity. This means that wifi is used. Wifi _really_ uses a lot of energy. Could you switch off Wifi in Nickel and see whether your battery life goes back to normal?

If your problem remains, would you open a new issue at the koreader github?

I have encountered a problem where the device will come out of standby automatically a few seconds after I hit the switch and put it to sleep. Is there a way to fix this issue?

Not yet. It is an old issue that has a fix for some Kobo devices. You can read further about it on github or search this thread.

My workaround for the Aura is a sleepcover. Or in my case a A6 notepad duct-taped to the side with a small magnet at a position to trigger the sleep mode. Mine mirrors the bottom-right corner at 4 cm from the bottom, 2,5 cm from the side. (see pictures)

reporting another bug: when opening an epub, say, on page 6 is a map, so when I click on the right side of page 5 to proceed, it jumps to somewhere in the hundreds. This doesn't happen in coolreader

Using FW 3.3, built 2014.04-41

I ordered a cheap sleep cover on ebay, so I hope that works. But that notepad is amazing, haha.

Check koreader on github > wiki > advanced > change defaults. Appearently, it was last edited 3 months ago. So maybe we should link to the wiki on the first post.

The wiki is really extensive and the Tips and tweaks have information that's new even to me.
