You are always up to every query and always caring to answer.I also thank FF2 here too.... Should you find a solution in the near future for the RTL you would make me and many others able to read Hebrew and Arabic and would serve whole nations of kindle users if the words may go ![]() There must be a way.And that would be a real Evolution to the kindle and the both poles of the kindlers,if you know what I mean..I am losing many old Hebrew and Arabic docs that go back to 10thC..If I scan and convert them to images I lose the feature of making a linked document to be easy searchable.....Is there any prog that can make any format of images "'linkable"" ![]() |

I think I am not doing this right. The font package installer works great. It is not until I try to change the fonts that I get that damn cycle off issue. Can someone explain how to change the fonts like I am a 2 year old? I understand that I am just renaming the fonts. So for example, if I download ARIAL I have to change the name to SERIF so that the kindle will recognized it. Or am I misunderstanding?
I don't need to change the font this badly I'm just determined to figure this out. |

NiLuJe,
Thank you very much for figuring out the screen saver timeout. Have a Merry Christmas. |

@Devisissy: Err, sorry, not sure I understand what the issue you're having is, exactly?

I've downloaded the kindle-ss-018.N.zip file to change my screensaver - but I can't find the right file in it for my kindle. I've got the Kindle 3, international version, with wifi and 3g - so which of the files should I use?
The choices are: update_ss_0.18.N_k3g_install.bin update_ss_0.18.N_k3gb_install.bin update_ss_0.18.N_k3w_install.bin |

And a quick bunch of updates!
Fonts v4.2.N: * Updated FT libs (update ft snapshot) * The FW 3.x browser workaround is now only enabled when actually needed (ie. when an FT override is in use on a FW 3.x device) ScreenSavers v0.18.N: * Fix the autoreboot feature when the fonts hack is not installed SSTimeOut v0.03.N: * Move the config file to the sstimeout folder to avoid cluttering the userstore's root. In the Fonts & SS case, I'd recommend doing a full restart after applying the update(s). |

Hi, I've been forum crawling for the whole day, and haven't been able to find an answer, I apologize if my question is too rudimentary.
I successfully installed everything including the font hack, however, I noticed that I like the default 'sans serif' the best, as it makes the font look somewhat bolded. However, I can't figure out which ttf file in the font folder matches with typeface in Kindle. Specifically, which ttf corresponds to 'regular', 'condensed', and 'sans serif' respectively? I'd like to replace all but the sans serif. Can anyone teach me which files I can copy back from the backup folder in order to keep the default 'sans serif'? Secondly, I tried to install the 'droid sans' font via both copy and pasting into the font folder and using the packaged update file, both methods resulted in my Kindle 3 not being able to display anything other than menus. Everything appears black. Is this a known problem? I've been able to install all the other fonts correctly with either method. Lastly, does anyone have a good Chinese font I can use? The one that comes bundled with Kindle is terrible, it is washed out AND it doesn't contain a lot of characters. I'd really appreciate any help I can get. Thanks a lot! |

Forgive me if I'm blind, but I don't see SSTimeOut v0.03.N in the attachments section.

@alphataru: Check this post for a detail of which font does what on the hack side. The default Kindle Sans Serif font is Caecilia (not the condensed one), and you'll find it in linkfonts/backup.
As for the Droid Sans, apparently, there's a bunch of reports of Kinlde really not liking it (among other custom fonts), I'd never heard of the 'everything black' symptom before, usually it's blank/missing fonts, or the Home screen not appearing at all and staying on the Amazon+boy+tree logo, but it does sound like the same issue (Which I can't reproduce on my Kindle >_<"). Using another font and/or using one of the new freetype override setting should 'fix' it. As for a chinese font, one should be installed with the hack on a K3 (Droid Fallback). @jeanniespc: If the font hack came from this thread, you shouldn't have to. But if it's *really* old, you might want to do it anyway, to be on the safe side ![]() @kranu: Nope, I pulled it until I finish the next version (too much risk of soft-bricking on FW 3.x if the user-specified config file is broken). |

Okay, well I'm glad I snatched the 0.02 version before you pulled it. To be honest, it works quite well, but I never deviated from the instructions, so I never had to deal with bricking.

@kranu: Well, to be honest, you'd have to put something really crappy in the config file to mess things up (ie. not an integer). But, still, I'll add some more safety checks, and use bindmounts. This way, at the very worst, a factory reset will clear things up.

![]() I just installed the screensaver timeout hack earlier this week... everything is working fine, should I uninstall it? I didn't mess with the config, the default 1 hour timeout is perfect for me... |
