The US book is almost always an "already on sale" book, usually with no additional discount.

Huh. That finally showed up elsewhere.

It's been ongoing in Canada (as long as you don't switch to the francophone language option for your purchase) since the Xmas holidays, and the 20% code they give out will actually work in your own account on any couponable book. (It's the same 20% code every time you make a purchase which brings up the referral widget, and I have no idea how they track these things, since there doesn't really appear to be a way for them to check, and no, I have not gotten a 50% back from them yet, although technically, I didn't finally use the 20% in a new account when there was a sufficiently low-cost book I wanted.)

Yeah, I think I may have noticed it before because it seems to have been going since Dec 12, I'm guessing that I've just wizzed through that screen though, lol, to get to the My library to download the purchase book.

But also I'm not sure that one could successfully post a link, because the info is on the 'Thanks for purchasing' page that comes up after you've bought something. So I don't know if that would link successfully, but hey, someone needs to give it a try after their next purchase.

But, thinking about it a bit further - no link was in the actual promo. The promo was as I posted it .....

You have to buy something first, and you have to buy it from a qualifying country, which the store set to the right language (I've been picking up francophone books from the fr-CA version of Kobo for most recent batches of purchases, so I didn't get to see the message for a while and thought they'd finished the offer, even though my main account which I've been using to buy with, is for Canada, though I did see it once in the UK when I bought a non-couponable sale book a couple of days ago). The widget loads on the confirmation page after your purchase (sometimes it might take a while for it to load).

IIRC, technically you've got 4 options when the widget comes up, Twitter, Facebook, some kind of app that I can't recall, and email. Click one of those options and it'll pop up some sort of text for you to approve sending which includes the 20% code and a generic shortened link for a list of suggested books. I haven't set up a new account via referral, since I prefer to keep all my actual paid purchases in just my 3 accounts for the regions I buy in and I'm willing to wait for the next coupon contest to come around, since I'm not shopping outside the usual countries.

It's always identical generic text with no tracking information as far as I can tell, and no apparent way for them to tell who you sent it to or if they used it or even who sent it to the hypothetical new account, so I've no idea if they can even follow through on the 50%, or if they'll just send a generic 50% to everyone who's technically clicked to do the promo, the way they sent a follow-up code to everyone who participated in one of their contests a while ago.

If anyone needs a cheap book to try and see the offer, let me know the genre you like and I can probably suggest a book under 5 (or even under 3) that is decent--I read a lot of books at the 2.99 price point and I read most genres excluding horror and erotica. I'm in the US and pretty sure I saw that message during the last trivia contest when I bought a book, but I didn't click through.

I bought the Peter May book that costs 99p in the UK. No discount on it though. I'm not near my PC so can't remember the exact name of the book, maybe The Gateway and it's set on an island off Canada.

Anyway for anyone who reads Peter May they may be interested and it's the first in a new series. The promo will show up if you buy it.

The same book is full price in all the other countries and Amazon.
