Hi Sweetpea
You have a point there. I dearly loved mine, but we stopped fighting only when I moved out of the house. At that time in Italy that meant either becoming a priest, a professional military or getting married.

Of course I got stuck in the territory of my first mother in law. from the pan to the coals.

Having them far away has advantages on day to day. But, like in the case of Juliette, it means visits.

how are the apples?

Daughter got to her new flat at 9:30 last night.
Key wouldn't work, it did before she came home for a holiday.
Bedroom has not been adjusted for her purposes, as previously arranged.
Prized rock/crystal has been removed!

Son's been made redundant!

Well, not the Enemies of Mother, but the Circumvention of Mothers would be a nice idea, from times to times. Then again, it can just work indefinitely if you're not a girl

She's had security round, so they are taking the issue seriously.

Hopefully, too, they will be able to 'fix' the bedroom appropriately ....

If they live that far away, visits are rather rare (my mother lives 1500km and 3 countries away, my mother-in-law 2500km and, 3 or 4 countries away, depending how the plane goes...)

Even if you're girl! I've seen my mother for 5 days this year (and I had to work while she painted the first layer of our bed!). She'll be here another day at the end of september (before we've got the new kitchen, so no complaints that the kitchen isn't spotless ), so she can see the bedroom in its finished state

Now, my rant...

The car has developed a screeching sound, after the brakes have been applied. Now I need to get to the workshop and have the brakes fixed... We can't have that, with the new kitchen on the way, which is sucking the money out of our wallet faster than a black hole sucks the light inside... (but at least the kitchen will be beautiful...)

And as hot as it is here, I hate cold showers or baths. I don't even know how a whole complex of buildings loses hot water. Something about a boiler, so it must supply everyone. I know before this we never had to worry about running out of hot water.

I. WANT. HOT. WATER. My whites really need washing, as do my dishes. Heating up a pan of water just doesn't work well when washing dishes. And I feel grungy, even though I went to my sister's today and could wash. Not an everyday option since she lives about 95 miles from me.

Sorry. It's amazing how dependent on (hot-indoor-running) water we are. And amazing how much it is missed when it isn't there.

Brakes! you know, the weird part is that my mother is a regular at killing her brakes (history of driving with the foot over the clutch pedal ). Next time, off the old car goes (it's an old station wagon that's costs more in repairs than in petrol- and with these prices, it's stunning), and she gets something a lot less heavy, so even if she's torturing the poor car the weight to brakes will have to suffer until their untimely demise will be less than with the super-heavy tank- I mean, Opel Astra .

The brakes have been replaced earlier this year. And I'm absolutely not heavy on the breaks. They're most likely simply a bit mis-aligned... But it still costs money! (otherwise, I'll call warranty!)
