I just got a call from my Dad's boyhood best friend. they stayed buddies their entire lives but really haven't seen each other for 25 years. when I was little, (until about 12 or so) we went out to his ranch about every month. he and Dad busted broncs, herded cattle, fixed fence, trapped, guided hunters across most of New Mexico, Arizona and parts of northern Mexico much of their young lives. he grew up to be a VERY successful Doctor and now has a ranch in Arizona and my Dad grew up to be a pretty darn successful lawyer and judge. go figure for a couple of ne'er do well New Mexico Cowboys. he has invited my son and me down to his ranch. he started telling me stories my son needs to hear. good, interesting, adventerous stories. and I can't stop crying....

yes, yes they are. unfortunately my son won't be here for a week and I am trapped in a house full of women. I've never particularly gotten on well with women. one of the reasons I joined the Army.

I spent Sunday rebuilding my PC.

Saturday, it stated to misbehave, with the misbehavior taking the form of first spontaneously rebooting, making the ominous "cllick click click" noises that indicate a drive is having severe heartburn, and finally deciding it wasn't going to power on when I hit the front panel switch. I was not enthusiastic about the prospect of going to the local clone shop Monday for Yet Another Power Supply.

Sunday I said "Screw it!", disconnected everything, pulled it out from under the desk, and pulled out CPU, memory, five hard drives, CD ROM, and floppy, and rebuilt from scratch, making sure everything was properly seated and trying to simplify configuration and connections.

Put it back together, stick it back under the desk, plug in various cables for video, keyboard, mouse, laptop, sound, network and power, cross fingers, and hit the power switch.

It booted, and seems stable and content, with no drive issues I can detect.

I don't know what was wrong in the first place, and I'm not sure what I did that fixed it.

I suspect I just terrorized it into submission.

What the Hell is the farking point of a Vent and Rant thread if every farking post sounds like the whining of an irate Amish toddler?
If you are pissed off, unzip and cut loose!
Some of these farking posts actually lisp!
Oooo, Shirley Temple is mad now! She'th gonna thtamp her widdle foot in a minute!
You people wouldn't survive a polite conversation in New York City!
We curse at nuns! In 176 languages!
We have hand gestures that are banned in war zones!
Mothrafarking, mamby pamby, politically correct little crybabies!
We use the "F" word as punctuation!
We use *CENSORED* as a term of farking endearment!
