The simplest way is for you to install the 'hotfix' package - Link given in first post of this thread. After doing that - your jailbreak will 'self re-install' after any Amazon update. (The 'hotfix' package contains the parts that make the JB viral. - It is almost as viral as the GPL license. ![]() |

I upgraded it to 5.6.5 then jailbroke it.
Then the jailbreak survived an upgrade to 5.7.4. S/N model of my device is 9017. Thank you all! |

Does this jailbreak work on the KT2?
Hi. I'm completely new to kindles, and have recently acquired what I think is known here as a KT2 - its serial number is 90C6, so according to the serial numbers table that makes it a Kindle Basic (2014); Amazon also calls it a 7th Generation Kindle. Its firmware is expected to be 5.6.5, and I've not even turned it on yet, let alone immediately sticking it in aeroplane mode (long story short this is my second KT2 this week). It's UK, English, if that makes a difference.
I've been back through pages and pages of this thread, as well as having filtered the Developer's Corner to the KT2-only posts, and honestly all the different names and versions are just completely confusing me. I'd really like to be certain of what's what before I accidentally screw up my new kindle, so would someone be kind enough to bear with me and answer the following questions please:
Thank you so much! Last edited by Katanaqui; 06-06-2016 at 10:45 AM. Reason: Typo |

@Katanaqui: Double-check your initial findings, CN is *NOT* an expected device ID code. (C6, on the other hand, is, for a KT2).
Barring that initial snafu, 1. Yes. 2. Yes. (No need to reinstall the jb/hotfix itself, since the initial hotfix install as part of the JB takes care of that. For the rest of custom stuff, yes, as official updates basically wipe anything not hosted on the USB partition). 3. Yes for KUAL & MRPI. Maybe for the rest, since that entirely depends on the extension. Anything reported as working on FW >= 5.6.5 should work, regardless of the exact device. 4. Depends on whether said extensions are actively maintained or not. Stuff that is trivial enough doesn't really care about the actual device/FW. Other things, not so much. When in doubt, don't hesitate to ask (w/ a specific extension name/link). Last edited by NiLuJe; 06-05-2016 at 08:55 PM. |

Hey,
I've been searching for information on the Kindle PW 2015 but it seems the newest firmware isn't jailbreakable? I'm talking about the 5.7.4.1 update, I got a kindle 2 days ago but the first thing it did when connected to my wlan was autoupdate itself without even prompting (thanks amazon..). Am I completely out of luck? I was hoping to fiddle around with it. |

Great, thank you NiLuJe! And yes you're right, I did mean 90C6 (typo, think I took a look at the final digits being CN
![]() Ok so, jb -> hotfix -> update to fw5.7.4 -> KUAL + MRPI etc. -> other custom things. Got it ![]() Actually, I think I'll jb -> hotfix -> KUAL + MRPI etc. -> update -> other custom things, just in case KUAL doesn't work for any reason and I lose the chance to start over. I'd just double-check that things are working as they should before the official update, but, yep, that's basically it

Will factory resetting disable/'destroy' the jailbreak?

No.
It will only destroy the ability of the jailbreak to self re-install. - - - - It is replacing the full image of the main O.S. (normal Amazon update process) that destroys the "jailbreak" (our developer's signature certificate). If, at the time that update happens, the code to self re-install the certificate is not present, then the certificate does not get installed in the updated main O.S. image. It requires TWO actions - in a SPECIFIC ORDER - to 'destroy the jail break'. 1) 'Reset (to factory defaults)' 2) A full image update from Amazon. Note: The jail break bridge code can self-recover from: 2 then 1 2 only |

I recently bought a PW3, updated it to 5.6.5 and installed the jailbreak with hotfix and started using KOReader without issue. A few days ago I manually updated to 5.7.4.1. Everything appears to be working fine, except when I’m in KOReader I notice parts of the Kindle status bar will pop up on the page after 10-30 seconds after a page turn. It’s usually just the time that will pop up, but sometimes the battery icon or wifi status icon will show as well. It’s a minor distraction that ends up being somewhat convenient at times.
Is there a way to revert back to 5.6.5 by doing a factory reset and starting the whole process over? Or now that I’ve updated will it not go back to it’s original firmware version, which was earlier than 5.6.5? Are most people staying on 5.6.5 or are they updating after jailbreaking? Is there a preferred firmware version to update to and not go beyond? |

The interference of the top bar -
I think I recall that being mentioned here before, and it may be fixed already. You don't mention what version of KOreader your running or where you got it, so I can't say if using NiLuJe's most recent build would act the same. Whatever the KOreader situation is, it isn't worth changing firmware versions to avoid. Since it either is already fixed or will be fixed. There isn't any technical reason that I can think of not to stay with the current Amazon release (there might be personal preference issues over the feature sets, but not technical ones). Note: 5.7.4.1 on the PW-3 is the only combination on which Amazon currently supports voiceview. |
