Sure, but I probably will avoid it until I've read it, lest I spoil the read.

I'm reading his Elephant short story collection at the moment...

I've been on a bit of a roll lately. I read The Brief History of the Dead by Kevin Brockmeier. It was quite gentle and poetic for a post-apocalyptic.

I also read Ashfall by Mike Mullin and ejoyed the realism of that scenario.

I listened to an audiobook of World War Z, which was also fun.

For a change of pace, my current book listen is Murder is Binding by Lorna Barrett and my current read is Unnatural Issue by Mercedes Lackey. If that doesn't work, I'll read The Alchemist's Code by Dave Duncan.

Straight to Hell by Michelle Scott. This starts off and comes across as light-hearted chic-lit, but it's really dealing with more serious issues of...decisions and consequences. What would you do if your child was in danger? What would you REALLY do to save her?

But I didn't even realize it until after I finished because the book is extremely well-written. It stays in a fast-paced mode and is funny in spots and throws in a touch of romance...but not really...

My only gripe is that it's one of those "to be continued." Not enough was resolved for me by the end of the book, but that kind of fits the nature of the story. Soon as you solve one problem or beat one monster in life, another one appears. Maybe bigger. Maybe it's just the monster that was there all along.

It's weird cleverness hiding behind light reading.

I'm currently reading Barbara W. Tuchman's The Guns of August - a marvelously readable account of the events leading up to WW I - Tuchman really makes history interesting - and human!

I've heard good things about that book. I may have to read it sometime.

I just finished The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2011 by Mary Roach (Editor) and Tim Folger (Editor). Nice to have in one edition a collection of articles gleaned from such a wide collection of magazines.

Some of the stories I've read before. It was worth reading, but they're not easy going, IMO. The Fantasy/SF elements in some stories are mostly incidental to the thrust of the stories, which is the experience of war.

Hooray! My TBR list is now below 400!

Nex up, a purchase from last month, and it should be a bit lighter than the David Drake book I've just finished: The Wild Side edited by Mark L. Van Name, subtitled "Urban Fantasy with an Erotic Edge".

I like some of Mark Van Name's work, but I'd have to pass on that one.

Drake really can be a hard-hitter. I've only read a couple of essays he's written about war. They should be taught in history classes (not his political POV ones necessarily.)

Just finished reading The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. I could swear I've read this before, but it's a short novel, and interesting, so a re-read never hurts.

Started reading Valor's Choice by Tanya Huff. It's not doing much for me. I'll give it 50 more pages. I don't know if it's this particular story or the whole SF military space opera thingy but I find it dull and boring. It could be I'm a snob. Despite the casual sex references and cursing it's written for a 12yo.

Murder is Binding was a fun listen. I wish my library had the second "Booktown Mystery" available in eAudio.

My current audiobook is The Devil You Know by Mike Carey. It is also from the library and the narrator is doing a great job. I had to laugh because I didn't know this book would have Zombies in it but it has Zombies in it (see my prev post for other recent reading/viewing). ;?D

I'm actually enjoying Unnatural Issue by Lackey. I was concerned because I tried to read Wizard of London and it just didn't keep my attention at all and I returned that to the library. I'm reading "Issue" on my phone via the Overdrive app for Android.

Into the Badlands by Brian J Jarret, its a cross between The Road and a zombie novel.

theres a scene in here that ranks as one of the most depressing things i've ever read. i'm usually made of stone but it was a total gut punch.

there are also kids in this book that aren't utterly useless, weeping baggage as is common in horror fiction. these kids carry guns and hold their own.

great book if you like zombies or post apocalyptic fiction.

Dying Bites by D.D. Barant -- darn good UF. Full review at my blog, but this is another book that has been on sale ($2.99) and is worth a read if you like hard-nosed female protags and fast-paced adventures.

Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. I'm loving it. Thanks Blues.

(I was thinking "this feels familiar..." at the beginning, then Dustfinger made his debut and "Ahhhh this movie I watched!!!!")
