We dodged a bullet right here in my part of the Southeast, but many were not so lucky. Right now the death toll is reported as 28. All of you who were in the path of these storms please check in here so we will know you are okay.

OK here in NC - storms moved through here around 4 am - woke me up - but fortunately the tornadoes stayed south of us! Going out to pick up tree branches in the yard this morning - lots of rain & wind.

Do the storm cellars fill up with storm water? The flash flooding we have had around here would have them underwater in minutes.

The tornadoes in Indiana were just 15 miles north of here. At work, we all had to gather in a central hallway for about 30 minutes during the tornado warnings.

No one has storm cellars in the south ... probably for that very reason. We are exhorted to ride out tornado warnings in the closet (like Dixie Gal & Tim did last year in AL) or in the tub covered with a mattress. [I simply cannot imagine cramming 2 people and 3 cats into bath tubs!]
[I'm clearing a corner in my closet near a bearing wall for our "shelter" - the weather experts are predicting a long stormy season here]

She said if it wasn't for the unusual tongue and groove construction of her house, she and Tim wouldn't be here. All the houses around her were leveled. Construction companies take note!

It sounds like some of you in the US have to stay alert regularly because of the tornadoes. A bit like Aussies have to watch out for bush fires. We won't need to worry about that for a while here in the south east with all the rain. I am greatful for the weather warnings and community assistance that we have. Look after each other over there.

Pooh you can bring the family and sleep on Mr M's bed. he will move over - just shove him. it is queen sized, but you will have to let him have his hand knit.

Good to know everyone is still in one piece.

It's still damp and grey here. There was a bit of blue sky earlier, but it seems to have disappeared again.

Gosh Sneaky, I hope it doesn't come in on you. Are you around Maroochydore? I have friends who live in Montville and it seems to have done nothing but pour with rain ever since they moved there a bit before Christmas.
