I am currently scanning my 15th book. The whole thing has become a bit of an obsession but I'm enjoying the process. I've also been keeping notes of the steps I'm taking (which I seem to alter slightly with each new book scanned). As soon as I feel comfortable with the steps and quit "tweaking" them, I'll post my scanning steps in the Workshop forum. Believe it or not, the process isn't really that complicated, just tedious (but then I like tedious

You do? That's good to know, 'cause I don't mind sharing. Really. I've got an entire houseful of tedium you can have.

Just back from a meeting where I found out that I have to go to another IRB! AAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

I would LOVE to take a vacation in Illinois. . .in the spring. . .or summer. . .or at least when winter is OVER!! The nice thing about the scanner that David gave me is that it is very small and portable.

I just finished scanning a 758 page trade size paperback (one of those that contains 4 smaller books) and it only took me about 2 hours to scan and ocr the book. Of course, now I need to go back page by page to correct any errors but in my previous experiences I've encountered very few actual errors (on average less than 30 in a 350-400 page book) other than missing carriage-returns.

Tedious it is, but i'm lovin' the results!

Although, it does keep me off MR more than I like.

IRB = Instituional Review Board. You have to present research to them before you can apply electrodes, etc to humans for research. I was going to dodge this one and then someone came up with a reason that the section chief couldn't be the Site Primary Investigator, so the Dept Chair had to be.

I really dislike IRB meetings.
