Sister Boniface didn't cut it for me, either. I did like Rosemary & Thyme; in the cozy category, they're pretty cozy, and I admit that I'm a sucker for a gorgeous garden. (Which explains why I'm living in the barren desert, am I right?)
It's been a while since I've seen anything on Acorn that blew my skirt up, gotta admit. I don't "do" PBS any longer because I don't want edited or "airplane versions" of shows. (I mean, really, we're all adults here; I think we can see a naked bum!) I'd rather wait for them to come to Acorn or Britbox, etc. so that I can see the entire thing. Hitch |

I forget what year it was that I went off of PBS--it was a looooong time ago, though, now. Might have changed their approach, for all I know. Hitch |

Last night I watched the entire Moby Dick miniseries from 1998. It's freely available on YouTube and Amazon, with ads. YouTube lets you skip at least some of the ads.
Started out very faithfully, but in the second half diverges wildly, until the end where it does all come together. |

I also tried the first episode of Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre on Netflix. I didn't care for it at all. I found the animation off-putting and either the writing or acting was awful.
I know there is a lot of love for Ito. Maybe this was just a bad first episode or the animation is doing a poor job of representing his work. But I don't think I'll bother watching any further unless I hear glowing praise from somewhere. |

So we finished Three Pines and now see it was canceled. Too bad, it wasn't great but we find very, very few Prime originals worth watching at all...

We're currently watching...hmmmmm...crap, now I have to go look to find the name, a Korean Show--oh, the Shadow Detective on Hulu. Make sure you are GOOD with dubs and captions! And yes, I hate to confess, but...I am watching another pass through Poirot. And when I can find them, the (old) movies, too--Ustinov and the gang. I know, I'm old and decrepit and a big baby, but those are what I like, even if Ustinov is not the Poirot of David Suchet. :-) Hitch |

Joan Hickson's Miss Marple and Suchet's Poirot are my go to's -- when all else fails ... and the early MSM episodes

I've actually liked quite a few of Amazon's originals: Goliath, The Expanse, The Boys, Hunters, Reacher, Bosch, Three Pines, Outer Range, Upload, The Peripheral, Catastrophe.
EDIT: The Outlaws, Utopia, Last edited by DiapDealer; 06-19-2023 at 08:53 PM. |

I caught up with From last night. I'm still in a bit of a funk with TV series, so I'm watching a lot of YouTube; Critical Role or spooky shows.

I've started watching Silo last night. I haven't finished Wool yet, I should today, but going from the description from the first couple of episodes I figured I was safe to start watching it.
It's different from the book, but I'm really enjoying it. After I caught up I think I'm going to rewatch the first season of Good Omens in preparation for the second season. |

Same here. I thought the first couple of episodes were a bit rough, but after that, I've been enjoying it quite a lot. I did a re-read (listen) of Wool after the first episode, and the show deviates pretty quickly (and drastically) from the book(s), but that sort of thing has never really bothered me that much. A different medium has different needs. For me, the show has captured the essence of Howey's world and its inhabitants.
