Woo hoo - my KA1 arrived!
I don't know if my inquiry with Indigo made any difference, but it went from Ordered Friday, January 20 --> shipped Tuesday, January 24 --> arrived in Texas January, 27 I'm setting it up now. I really like the textured back so far and the thinner design compared to the H20. I see it updated to 4.2.8283. Last edited by kansaskyle; 01-27-2017 at 12:09 PM. |

Mine updated to 4.2.8283 also. The battery does drain a little quicker than I am used to, coming from the Voyage, but hopefully that will settle down. Anyhow, the pleasure of reading on this larger screen with properly tooled fonts more than outweighs any potential battery issues for me. Plus I love my Moko tree cover too. |

Not to mention the pleasure of getting free books to read from Overdrive! It's amazing to me... now I can devour even more books without weighing up the pros and cons of whether to buy them or not.

The problem was that the Kobo was 100% charged at midnight, at noon, opening the cover to read during lunch, surprised to see 43% left !
I didn't make a factory reset. I connected the Kobo to Kobo Desktop to establish the first connection. Kobo Desktop downloaded fw 4.2.8283. To late to make new tests, the kobo has been returned today and me refunded. In fact, the low memory (6.5 Go) unextensible was the 2nd reason to release this model. Hope Kobo will propose a new model with same screen than teh aura one but with SD port and no battery pb. |

I have zero battery problem with my new Kobo Aura One. I updated the firmware through wifi. You came here to get advices but didn't follow them. It seems your mind was already made. Kobo has the biggest storage for an ereader. And frankly, I can't understand why someone would feel bad about having "only" 6 000 ebooks on his a device. I've just had problems connecting the KA1 running version 4.2.8283 to my computer to replace a book.
Yesterday I put a book on it, and today I noticed it had a big, but simple to fix layout issue. So I fixed it (actually being a typo in the CSS, getting an important class ignored), and wanted to replace the book. Couldn't get the reader to connect. Same computer, same port, same cable, same software everything. Tried three cables. Nothing. In the end I kicked the USB-assignments using Nirsoft's USBDeview (that person should get a medal for his/her utilities, honestly), rebooted the computer and the reader, and then tried a different USB-port. Now it works again. As I can't believe I have a defective USB-port (everything else I connect to it always works, including my old KPW1), or have heaps of defective cables lying around, I have to come to the conclusion that the USB-connectivity of the KA1 is bad. Kobo should look into that. It probably has something to do with a buggy USB subsystem in the kernel they use. (The Kobo's do run Linux underneath, don't they?) |

Thanks for all advices. As I said, It's not 6000 but 4000 books max if you generate cover images for each book. With 4000 books on the device, 3 Go for the cover images ... |

If you don't want to waste 3GB on cover images then don't generate 3GB worth of cover images. Problem avoided. Simple.

Well, I have 4095 books on my Glo HD. This has a 4GB card in it and 3.15GB available for books. There is still 826MB of free space. So, I don't know why you have an issue with space on the Aura ONE. And going back to your original post, what you described doing does not have the effect you seem to think it does.
