There is not reason to remove the jail break, ever, it is a single, tiny, file.
In addition to the way documented here many times (use search box), it seems that all you have to do is update to Amazon 5.8.2.1 firmware (the now current version).

Further to this.
Have got several reports on lost jailbreak after upgrading to 5.8.2.1 on PW2/3.
Downgrade to initial factory firmware succeeded.

That is good news.
We are not completely locked out then, just need to avoid that firmware version.

I will leave the warning in the top post until the ability to still downgrade is confirmed on all models.

If Kindle devices start shipping with 5.8.2.1 pre-installed, we will actually have do something about this change made by Amazon.

I did the update to 5.8.2.1 firmware. Jailbreak is still there.

Silent update to 5.8.2.1 on my PW2 and it removed jailbreak. When trying to do a downgrade I get a message about a disallowed file and to call customer service. :/ Going to try a factory reset...

Have you previously installed the rescue pack?
If no, i think you need serial debricking

I just got a new KOA (upgrade from a DX)... I was going to jailbreak it to get a decent collections manager, but I'm now dubious with all the comments in the last couple days. Am I running a serious risk of bricking my Oasis if I try to jailbreak it?

What is your firmware version and the first six characters of the serial number?

now I am using KUAL. In fact there are 2 different KUALs on my kindle.
I dont remeber what I did. But I think when booklet version didnot work I used another version. This one is working now.

I did all the steps for JB. when updating via wifi I got error. Then I tried DO_FACTORY_RESTORE. And did not update anymore, my current FW is 5.5.0

Doing a factory reset and when it boots back up I'm at 5.8.2.1... Is there a way to get into the kindle far enough to actually enable airplane mode without setting up wifi?

Sideways work-around: if you are at home and own your own wifi, unplug the wifi router so that you have time to get to the airplane mode on the kindle. I.E. Turn off the wifi!

I'd think that would work.....

I should have mentioned that I tried that. It pops up an error that says it connected to wifi, but didn't find a connection and to contact my ISP.
