French Bistro Cooking: Easy Classic French Cuisine Recipes to Make at Home. By Sarah Spencer.

Free.

112 pages.

4.8 (6) at Amazon; 4.12 (8) at GoodReads. Doesn't make my 20 minimum ratings. C'est la vie. But, I took into consideration the outstanding ratings that author Sarah Spencer has on the rest of her books at Amazon.

Editorial comment:

We see tons of cookbooks for vegetarian and vegan diets. For once, just once, I'd like to see a cookbook published only for meat-eaters (and I don't mean your cat or dog).

How can talk about a cat hospital behind the couch, or a plea for froggie dollies (for legless frogs) be considered unsophisticated?

Just one authentic one will do, for now.

All of the recipes in your list of books look like they have some vegetables in them. I want a book which has no vegetables in it, none, just like the plethora of books which have no meat in them, none, just vegetables (and maybe dairy products and eggs if they are for vegetarians, not vegans). See the point?

They don't have to be on sale. It just has to be vegetable-less. I don't think that you can find one. And I think that it's high time that we carnivores start standing up and demanding our rights to a vegetable-less book, just like there are meatless books for the vegetarians and vegans!

You cookbook publishers had better have, or soon get, at least one vegetable-less cookbook. If not, I think that there could be a class-action lawsuit against all of y'all for discrimination!

Well, let's see, what could you do for me way over there in west Texas, for me in Florida . . . .

You seem to pride yourself on being a good cook. I'd like for you to send me an old-fashioned caramel cake. Mom sends me one every birthday, but my last birthday's been a while now. Send it by Priority Mail ("2-3" day service); hopefully it will get here in 3 days (the last thing that I sent to Texas (and this was to central Texas), by Priority Mail, took 5 days, though. Yes 5 days.

I just love old-fashioned caramel cakes . . . . I'll PM you my mailing address where to send it . . . .

Have a good evening.

I was originally trying to figure out whether your comment about George Carlin and Richard Pryor being the epitome of unsophisticated humor was meant to be an ironic example of Poe's law or was just ill-informed. I don't expect every comedic bit that either comic created to be considered sophisticated, but I'm pretty sure that they would not have received the honors and awards (including Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and Grammy Hall of Fame for both of them) they did if their bodies of work were primarily unsophisticated.

As far as froggie dollies are concerned, I think that anyone who has seen the National Lampoon cartoon knows, "That's not funny, that's sick!"

It's actually supposed to be unusually cool in the southeast for several days.

Okay, okay. I didn't want to let you do it. But if you insist, you can get a heavy-duty styrofoam cooler and dry ice. Supplement the styrofoam with additional slabs of styrofoam. I've had frozen things shipped that way, and they were rock hard when they got here. The cake should be fine. As much sugar (most caramelized) as the icing has, it's not going to be a problem anyway.

But, if you still insist on precautions, you can ship it overnight. USPS is okay; it's a more convenient way to mail packages. 'sides, I think that they use third parties--FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.--to ship that kind of mail anyway.

Thank you for your kind offer. Remember: you said that my wish is your command.

If we were to continue this discussion, which I surely hope that we don't, we would need to agree on a definition of "sophisticated."

If you want to continue the discussion, I wish to go ahead and concede defeat now. You win. I lose.
