Oh, yes. There are 9 margin settings, the pic showed the 2nd smallest. The range goes all the way from miniscule to ludicrously large

That "stuck pixel" has nothing to do with the Kobo. It's from the video camera. If you notice when his finger moves up/down to change the light level, you still see this spot on his finger. This means that the spot is actually from the camera and not the device.

Kobo Readers do not have "stuck pixels" any more or less than any other brand. It's not common to Kobo.

Oh and a "stuck pixel" is either a pin hole on the light layer or a burst eInk capsule on the eInk screen.

There is a setting you can add to the configuration file to fix the ghosting if it bothers you. Have a read starting at this post.

Kobo Nickel is a mess, it is not even a text type. I would only use it for small amounts of text, most likely to get more attention from the reader. For ads, for text boxes, for names under quotations... But for long texts; nope, not happening.

That Georgia is bad is sad actually. Georgia is an awesome typeface but the Georgia Kobo uses doesn't have kerning pairs and ligatures, but the thing is, it should have had them, Georgia I have is a nicely kerned typeface with ligatures. They probably didn't want to pay for a proper version.

And their other typefaces are badly configured for the kepub engine. While all of them except Georgia have kerning and ligatures, we see them only on epubs. Kepub renderer doesn't support ligatures, but with a simple change to font files, kepub renderer render kernings. I know that they cannot make changes to kepub renderer as it doesn't belong to them, but I honestly don't understand why they don't do that small change to the fonts. In my professional opinion, licensing shouldn't be a problem for what is needed.

Kobo's epub engine RMSDK is very good typographically, and Kobo's TypeGenius and typesetting settings work very well. And apart from Georgia and Kobo Nickel, they all render perfectly good. Try testing epub files with Amasis, Malabar and Gill Sans. These are the best ones.
Interesting. I was wondering why I hadn't noticed any ligatures when epubs supposedly support them. Now that you mention it, the lack of kerning in Georgia looks obvious as well. I've moved to Amasis and can only shake my head at the wonder and chaos that is Kobo software.

What do you know about typography on Kindles? Baskerville is a nice font that could work well with hyphenation added in by Calibre addons but I don't know if kerning or ligatures are supported.

As a Kobo reader,Amasis is the best, I convert all my books with Calibre and put Amasis on .
I wish there was a patch where Georgia (and other fonts) can be taken out of the reader (or books) and replace it by default with the Amasis font without converting them first, so much books have fonts build in that are terrible for a reader.
So much ebook makers that want to have the ebook looks exactly the same with build in fonts and marges which can't be overrided without editing the book.
(And you always notice that when you are reading in a place without a computer )

The Koreader Project at Github has released a version with Kobo Glo HD support.

@Nick_1964; With Koreader, you can not only turn "Embedded Style" off, but under the "Set render style" menu there is a "clear all external styles" option. You can then select from the .css listed. You can also add your own .css, to apply your own settings, after what ever is already active. This is all doable on your device, no computer involved. Except the making of your own .css file, that you would want to do on a computer.

Luck;
Ken

No rooting involved. All you need is Tshering's "Kobo Start Menu" (Which even has features to improve the stock software), to launch the addon readers and utilities. An install guide. The stock Kobo software is unaffected.

Very true. The kindle paperwhites had a lot of issues with pinholes and I also had one on the voyage I returned as well.

The problem with Kindle typography is that there is no hyphenation. And I haven't seen any kerning in any Voyage reviews I watched.

I only use Malabar among the included Kobo typefaces. It has kerning and ligatures with epubs. Other than that, I usually modify typefaces I own for my personal use. I am reading with a modified Adobe Text right now. I can't share the font files, but if one can show me any kind of proof of purchase, I can send them.

Amasis is a nice typeface, but I hate all slab serifs. I don't really have a reson for that, I simply dislike them. Malabar is awesome with epubs anyway.

Kobo Glo HD is now available for preorder in the UK. £109.99 but no mention of how much shipping would be.

The 300dpi is tempting, but I'm still waiting for a non-glass substrate screen in a mainstream 6" eReader.

Shipping is free, (7 to 10 days), shown once you have to enter the payment details, (don't ask me how I know )

My newly-arrived Glo HD has noticeable bright areas along the bottom where the LEDs are. A kind of a horizontal bright-dark pattern. Which also makes the lower third of the screen seem brighter than the top third. It's definitely tolerable, but is nowhere near the uniformity of my H2O. From spending time on this forum, I know that there is variance in the screens, and that I simply got lucky with the H2O (and slightly less lucky with the Glo HD). I'm not going to try to replace it, as its a hassle from where I'm located and also, frankly, there's nothing fundamentally wrong with it. I'll try to get my eyes used to this screen, but if that doesn't work, it's back to the H2O permanently.
